As of late, I have really begun to lose interest in sports. Aside from hockey and baseball, I don't really enjoy sports. I can watch the Eagles in football, but that is about it for other sports. I have been trying to figure out a reason why this is for a while now. The root of the problem is pretty obvious to me now. I have developed a strong dislike for jocks I don't know. There are jocks I know who are great people, but I think the modern day jock has pissed me off beyond belief. I think it is their general arrogance and attitude. I now find myself trying to distance myself from them. Anything I see them doing, I just don't want to be associated with. Maybe I am being stereotypical, but they have really hampered my past love for sports. I have basically begun to view them as inconsiderate people because of their arrogance. I think seeing most in day to day life and how they feel they are better than the world has just pushed me over the edge. That has carried up to professional sports, where I don't think some guys are as big of assholes (although there are some). What I really hate is how some feel playing a sport is making some great contribution to the world. Like when I am on campus and see some of them, they act as if playing sports makes them good, humble people that should be loved by everyone. Then worse than that is there are people who do bow at their feet. It makes me disgusted so much. There are so many other people on this Earth who deserve praise for the things they do. Not some dick who will just use the compliment to inflate their already large ego. These people who are doing the praising are just terrible to me. It is as if their own idea of self worth is so shitty that they need to latch on to someone else. So yeah, I have had a long day and just needed to vent. I know you all care enough to read this and post constructive responses. EDIT: This also applies to the slightly less athletic guido.

You're just pissed because I stuffed you in a locker. For a second there I thought it was a kiss smiley. I was then going to be infuriated that you let the secret out. But yes, totally the reason.

So you JUST realized that most jocks are assholes? I've just realized how much it pissed me off. Usually I let it go, but I think when it hits you in a personal way, it just eats at you.

LOL at all of the ads.
I'm a jock myself, and people still look at jocks stereotypically. Freak, you are always a guy who thinks athletes get too much attention and shit. Like even when Sean Taylor died, you asked why this gets so much attention when it happens all the time?
I swear most people just look at jocks trying to find some sort of arrogance. If they even see the slightest little hint of arrogance, they cast him off as some sort of jerk. To be an athlete, you have to have some arrogance, some confidence, or some attitude. You don't have to show it, but it's there. They are just confident in thier abilities. I don't see anyone getting on a bunch of nerds or science geeks because they brag about their grades.
I mean, seriously, sports are probably the biggest part of our society. Of course it's a meaningful contribution to the world.
And LMAO, I the ad at the top of my page says "Jocks: THE fitness for gay guys!"

When did I ever brag about my grades?
Anyway, 92% of jocks are assholes. It's a proven scientific fact.

I still stand by the fact that the Sean Taylor death did get too much attention. Primarily for the wrong reasons. People saw 'Sean Taylor Dead' on the newspaper, and think an athlete is dead. Not a spouse, not a son, not a friend, not a father, an athlete.
I do understand your statement on how they have to have some confidence and attitude. I just think it should be left on the field. Sportsbuck you seem to be a pretty good example of this. The situations you have posted of your life, you don't seem to be a complete dick. I just hate the guys who walk around thinking they are better than every person. It is one thing to be proud about your accomplishments, but don't act like you are better than everyone else in every single way. How many 'geeks' or 'nerds' walk around like they are better than every person around them.
Another thing, I think that is the problem with sports, they are such a big part of our society. To me, they lost their value as entertainment because people put them higher than so many things.

From my experiences in life and in sports, the kind of jock you are describing makes up around 10% of all jocks. Thing is, with the stereotypical past of jocks and our reputation that proceeds us, people see that 10% and group everyone in with them. Honestly, once I step outside the lines, I'm no different than anyone else. Just a normal dude that's trying to live life, why should I act like I'm better?

You don't carry superiority in athletics to every other aspect of life. I can't stand when these guys leave the field of play and still act like they are on the court. At least you can realize that you are equal amongst everyone and not someone higher up in the ranks.

My only problem with the "jocks" were the political power they had at my HS.
This was a private high school, and to be honest it was more the "party" group that got on my nerves. Most of them were good people in a small setting, but get them together and if you were not a rich, white football player than you weren't worth anything. At this school, football held so much power they were getting away with grade fixing and what not. That is what bothered me about the jocks...the political power they held at my school.
The public school I went to my senior year was so much better than that.

Not a spouse, not a son, not a friend, not a father, an athlete. That's what sells. People will read it. It's business. Sad, but true. Celebrities sell. And to say there was nothing about Sean Taylor as a father and his life, you obviously didn't pay attention to the articles very well or watch any of the press conferences.

Yeah of course that's what they thought.
They want you to pick up the newspaper and read. 50,000,000 people aren't going to read about some random guy in Texas.

That is my problem with our society. We care about his death more in an entertainment view then in the view of him as a human being with a family.
