All you guys keep saying is "it's not true". You can call it biased all you want, but isn't there a chance you say it's bias because you are biased on the topic?

What I also don't get, is why you people are getting on these people for taking easy classes. Who hasn't taken an easy class in their life? I take easy classes to get rid of some homework because I have so much in HONORS classes.

What if someone just doesn't like any of the hard courses? What if they aren't interested in being an engineer? What if they don't want to be an accountant? What if they just want to complete high school and take the required courses, and then spend their life playing in a band or joining the armed services? Does that mean they are stupid?

Also, Sportsbuck and I have never said other kids are not under pressure. Find where we did. We know they do. We're not stupid. But we just stated a point that athletes are under pressure to well in school because of eligibility. Grade fixing or not.

I don't get what you guys are saying about grade fixing. If it happens as often as you people say it does, how come we don't here about it? Usually, when it happens in Michigan, the problem is found and it is stopped and there are penalties. But I haven't heard anything about that in at least 5 years.

Until someone can show me about 50 sources of grade fixing, I am not backing down on the grade portion. Sportsbuck has provided proof for our case, but none of you have provided anything for us.

Sucks for everyone because it seems the entire forum has become embroiled in stupid stuff like this. If you remember (and you probably don't, hell, I had to look back) this thread started as a completely civilized discussion about the general dislike of the jock mentality and evolved into this complete mess. Spartan, NOBODY came into this thread for the sole purpose of calling you gay, so quit thinking everyone is out to get you. People like to joke with you and in the past the joke has gone too far. But almost everyone active on this forum doesn't jump into threads to try and seriously disparage you. Truth is, sometimes you come across as an arrogant tool. Second, I've seen grade fixing happen. I know people who have told me they had grades fixed. If you don't get grades fixed, than good for you man. I trust that you are not a dumb guy Sparty, so maybe you don't need it. Grade fixing does happen though, and you are yet to admit that. That's all I'm looking for here.

as far as I can tell at least it seems that the people defending jocks are the ones who have not been all the way through high school and have therefore not been able to appreciate the bullshit that goes on while the ones who know it happens alot (like myself, freak, bama, etc.) all have completed or have almost completed HS. Whether we actually saw it or not we all know it occured alot because we were able to step back and reflect on our HS career unlike you guys.

Also it seems as if the ones defending the "jocks" may well run in the same crowd as said jocks. Not saying you guys are pricks or whatever cause from what I can tell you seem to be average kids FWIW. However, being friends with someone often makes you blind to the special privledges they receive and they way they portray themselves to others. It is only after you have a " friendship meltdown" of sorts that realize what smug dick the guy really. I had this experience myself as looking back I can't believe I didn't see how much of a douche bag one of my friends in HS was. He would constantly skip class with no penalty, hand in assignments late and get 100% even though it was obviously copied, and was just a complete dick to everyone outside our "circle".

Seriously, friendship and love make you complete blind to how big of an asshole someone is.

I really am by no means the "big man" here, that's pretty ridiculous, seeing as I am one of the youngest members on this site. No one's been sucking my metaphorical dick.

Don't act like you don't care about people liking you here, you wouldn't be getting up in arms about about it if you didn't care. People post on message boards because they enjoy the people, that's why we all still post here even though DC is no more.

It's being said because it's common sense. Because someone is an athlete does not make them smarter. There is a laundry list of reasons as to why the few stats that have been brought up, like average GPA's, are horrible measuring sticks, and I don't feel like I should have to rehash those points again, because we've had to repeat ourselves over and over.

Good for you and your honors classes. I'm not saying it's bad to take an easy course (though I feel that by intentionally taking easier courses, you miss out on some of the stuff you can take without having to pay out of your own pocket in college). We are not "getting on" these people for doing it, just saying that it factors into the only statistic that has been presented, and one that we've already talked about how terribly off it is.

Sportsbuck has continually acted as though athletes have it so rough, and that because of all this pressure, they do better in school. I stated why that's clearly and obviously false.

There hasn't been anything in the news here in forever, but I know for a fact it happens. From small things like students coming in 20 minutes to late to class and saying "don't mark me late, I won't be able to play", to legitimate grade bumping, I've seen most all in only my two years in high school. It exists.
