Hey, so seeing as we've had some somber topics as of late, how about everyone starts bragging about their winter athletic achievements, huh?
I'm two and a half weeks away from the big state indoor meet, and it's certainly a lot more tense than last year. We've won the state title seven years in a row, but this years it's really anyone's game. I'll be running the opening leg in the 4x200 relay, probably 2nd leg in the 4x400, and I'm the sixth seed in the 600m in the state.
Two weekends ago was when I ran my 600m time, it was one of the most proud moments of my life. I'd never run the event before, but one of the seniors laid out what to watch for. My goal coming into the day was 1:34, which would've been a very solid time, seeing as the top in the state was 1:27. But the other guy told me to try to run 29-30-30 second 200m splits. I thought there was no way I could do it, but when you're an underclassman, you have to try anyway. I went out, ran the splits perfectly, and finished with a 1:29, fourth in the race to 3 seniors. Now I have an actual chance at making an individual impact at states (though I hurt myself in practice last Thursday...)

Hockey we are defending state champs and sitting in first place with a 9-1-3 record. I'm on fourth line and don't get much ice time (1 to 5 shifts a game) as a Sophomore, but I was able to score a big goal last game against the second best team in the state. A lot of my shifts come on PK because I'm a really good shot blocker. My stats so far are:
1 goal 1 assist Even Plus-Minus

Been fighting injuries and illness all season, but ran a 2:06 800 and 4:52 true mile a couple weeks ago. I have a 1500 invitational coming up and that's really my only concern for the rest of the year until States. My teammate who's a junior broke a couple meet records the other day running sub 4:30 true mile and 2:01 in the 800.

Definitely a thread worth posting in. I used to be a big 400 runner, but the coaches have since transformed me into a middle distance. I have run every discipline in the DMR this season. I have set PR's in every event too and have drawn scholarship (not full ride) offers to crappy schools like Dickinson and Ursinus. We have states coming up on March 1st so that should be a big deal. Here are my times so far:
400 - 51.3 800 - 2:00.23 (not happy about that) 1200 - 3:18 1600 - 4:56 (not a strong event)
And keeper, do you guys usually run the open 600? That is such an add event. Our only opens are 60H, 60, 200, 400, 800, Mile, 3000. No worries McGahee, the spring season is really what counts. The injuries will die down. I'm actually not running in the spring season because I got sponsored by a triathlon club and they don't want me running track during the spring. So these final two weeks are all I have to break 51 and 2:00.
Good luck men.

Our only opens are 55, 60H, 200, 400, 800, 1600, very occasionally the mile, and 3200. 1500 and 3000 we only have at special invitationals. The 600 is pretty common from what I've looked around, but it's just not a race they do anywhere near where I live. The 1000 is a rare one but goes on some places and even more bizarre is the 500, which I recently saw on dyestat.com. I think that's the strangest I've seen.
DJB, is that 1200 a DMR split or did you guys have an open 12?

Our state does... 55M, 60H, 300, 600, 1000, 1600, 3200. And for relays we just have 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800. 600m is a pretty big event in New England, same as the 1000.
DJB, good luck with the college offer. I'm doing the AAU circuit this summer, since I'm in the upper year of the age bracket, hoping I can attract some attention, we have the best track program in the state and have quite a few people running at D-I and D-II schools, so I'm hoping I can get something set up my way.

I think that's the strangest I've seen. DJB, is that 1200 a DMR split or did you guys have an open 12? The 500 is really wierd. I guess the finish line would be one the backstretch, but taht doesn't make any sense to me. Very odd. And yes I ran that split two weeks ago leading off the DMR. Our state does... 55M, 60H, 300, 600, 1000, 1600, 3200. And for relays we just have 4x200, 4x400, and 4x800. 600m is a pretty big event in New England, same as the 1000. Best of luck to you too. Running at a prestigous school really helps you because the scouts are already checking out your school. I don't think I am going to accept any of the offers because it would still be cheaper for me to go to Penn State rather than the colleges that offered me schollies. I am really hoping Kutztown (PA school) contacts me because I'd love to go there.

Another thing I'd like to whine about while I'm in this thread is that while I'm not usually in the hot-heats, I still find myself leading the race despite having a slower seed time than what the top guys are, but I can't find a way to hold my lead. My kick is weak now, and it's cost me plenty. I won my 800 heat at the Armory when my coach seeding me 2:17 or something slow like that, but asides from that I've just been choking down the stretch.
Busted out a 4:48 in the mile today after not running a meet for a long ass time. Then ran freakin 2:10 in the 800 twenty minutes later which I'm a little upset about. Blew my lead in the mile on the less 50M stretch and blew 2nd in the 800 at the very last second. I'm looking at around 4:42 by the end of the season and hitting 4:35 by spring...

So yeah, I had pick-up hockey tonight for the first time in almost a year. Aside from having the physical stamina of a 50 year old man, I played pretty well. Picked up a pair of goals, 3 assists and made some nice overall plays. Now I just gotta get back into shape..

That's not bad at all. I'm usually a whiny wreck after my races. The last thing I think about is racing again. I FINALLY broke 2:00 in the 800 today. I ran the anchor leg and my split was a 1:58 so I had some time to spare. My 400 split was 55 - I think that is the fastest I have ever run the first half in. Fun day!

All I ever do at meets is complain. I scratched in the 600 to see where people would fall. It's going to be a hell of a race at states, there's 8 of us in about a 2 second window, that are far set apart. I've only run it once, and I want to stay a bit unknown, so that I can steal some points. Top 6 score, so I'm looking to finish 4 or 5. I think I'm currently seeded 7th, but I'll up my seed time next weekend. Our coach told us we might be the reason we lose, because we finished SECOND in the 4x400. This is while we have no one scoring in shot put, long jump, and high jump. Give me a break.

I got a game tonight... that is all. to quote my quote and I will... lost 10-8 against the best team in the league. I got 2 goals and 5 assists and 2 pims I was asked to fight (again) and yet refused because well fighting in adult league hockey is on the level of picking-up a midget and shaking him. Its not needed, but it seems everyone wants to anyways.

Ha we've gone 3 straight years without nabbing a single point in State Relays. Our girl's team on the other hand won the meet by 37 points over the 2nd place team. The gap between 1st and 2nd was higher than the 3rd place team's total score. So while they're out producing All-Americans in 6 different events and heading to Nationals, we're looking at our 9th place finish in the Sprint Med as a positive.

We're State Champions 7 years in a row, with our weakest team ever this year. It's tough, I'm being overstretched for events, and I'm only a sophomore. We've got one guy running the 4x800, 300, 600, and 4x400
