Pick your winners for the oscars this year (brief explanations if you want) For the nominees: imdb.com/features/rto/2008/oscarsBest Picture: No Country For Old Men Finally saw this last night it was probably one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was creepy, suspenseful, and downright scary good. The thing that was done the best was the lack of music in the background. It created an incredibly tense and suspenseful tone throughout. Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis One of my top 3 actors of all-time. Picked more out of rep and what I have heard about this movie cause I haven't seen any of these flicks yet (except Eastern Promises). However, if he even matches his performances in Gangs of New York, Last of the Mohicans, or My Left Foot he should win. Best Actress: Ellen Page Haven't seen any of these yet but Page is Canadian and the buzz is that she's the fav. Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem The best performance in any movie I have ever seen. Seriously he should have been the lead actor because his performance is chilling and haunting. The best performance I have ever seen. Best Supporting Actress: Don't Know Haven't seen any of these and I haven't heard anything either. Best Director: Coen Brothers Amazing Direction for one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen. Also although it sounds weird I think No Country should win for music achivement simply because there wasn't any. That was one of the boldest moves I have ever seen and it made the movie so much more chilling and haunting.

I found that interesting too but I expected it cause the Academy usually picks "artsy" films rather than "popcorn" movies.

American Gangster isnt a nominee for best picture? Blah It just wasn't that good. Think about how it compares to The Departed.

Yeah AG was not even close to the Departed. AG was good, good enough I think to at least receive oscar attention but I wouldn't win.

seriously if you have seen No Country and don't think Javier Bardem should win for supporting actress you should get your head examined.

Bardem had a very good performance in an excellent film. Phillip Seymour Hoffman however, was Charlie Wilson's War, and will thus be rewarded for the performance. He's probably one of the best, if not the best actor currently out there.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. I love Hoffman as well though

Philip Seymour Hoffman earned the award. He does a great job in 'Charlie Wilson's War'.
To add, Keeper is dead on with his comment. Philip Seymour Hoffman is one of the best out there. He did great with 'Capote' and also did great in an entirely different role with this one in 'Charlie Wilson's War'.

Have you guys seen No Country yet? Yeah. I thought it was a very good film, my #3 for the year, and I don't think I enjoyed it as much as it is good. I preferred Atonement to it, but can understand why others would go the other way. However, I think There Will Be Blood is in a class of it's own. Brilliant score, brilliant performance from Lewis, brilliant script, everything about the movie was simply incredible, some of my favorite moments from film are in there.

I am excited to see 'No Country for Old Men' again this weekend at the other theater in town. This one you have to be 21 or not a complete tool to get in. So much better than these little immature bastards getting into the theaters.

my top 5 movies from (2007 & early 08) year are:
1. Control 2. The Darjeeling Limited 3. No Country For Old Men 4. King Of California 5. Zodiac
I may interplace 'The Savages' after i see it tuesday.
I think Depp should win the best actor mostly because well he did something he never has done before and excuted amazing. He really re-invents his craft with the roles he chooses now a days. Hoffman is who I think is top 3 best actor in this generation, he really rivals dean and brando.
