We haven't had a good policy discussion in a while, and well this is just a fun topic. So what's your opinion on this matter?
I think most know that I'm for it being totally legal. It's no worse in my mind than drinking. The bad things that come from it are mainly due to the black market and people who cannot control themselves (like an alcoholic).
So yeah, what say the good people of DC?

I love smoking and do it almost every weekend ( i dont smoke during the week its a rule I have), however I really dont know if it should be legal, I mean maybe lessen the penalties and stuff. If it was legal then yes I would be very very happy, but some people would just go overboard and shit.
I like it the way it is but with lesser penalties, people need to understand that weed is really not a drug.

Think it should be legal with D.U.I. or "High in Public" punishment set in place still just like with alcohol. Marijuana CAN be dangerous.

If there's one thing I've learned it's that you can't trust people, so I'm a bit wary of this. I have no problem with it if it's used safely, but I think if you change things now it's not gonna be good. So I abstain for now. I need to see further arguments.

Really I don't think it should be legal, and before you potheads get onto me I can atleast explain myself. I know of some people who got high and made some bad decisions, and ended up running through a stop sign and almost killing themselves and the other car they hit. Now, I'm not saying Alcohol is any better. But I don't want to run into any high drivers on the road, just like I don't want to run into any drunk drivers on the road, so I say make it illegal and stiffen the penalties.

I understand what you say jct, but Loki makes a great point. To have to punish those (even worse) like you suggested is just a drain on the system. Spending time in jail for possession of a small amount of marijuana is just pointless and a waste. I would hate to see law enforcement spend more time with stiffer marijuana penalties when there are far worse criminals in this country.

Yea I understand what your saying Freak, but I just don't think it is right for people to Drink and Drive or get High and Drive. Plus freak alot of those far worse criminals are influnced by illegal substances or alcohol.

exactly freak, Weed should carry a lesser penalty but really just dont be stupid with it and dont get caught and ur fine. Also we do have bigger things to worry about in this country.

Like I said, still penalties. Most of that more important crimes are because of drug/alcohol influence

However, if you are in a private place and decided to smoke some weed, I can't see the trouble in it. It is like alcohol, be smart when you do it. With that in mind, it comes down to the individual more than the general public. I do agree that those other criminals were influenced by illegal substances, I just don't think marijuana is one of them (in most cases). |

Thats what bothers me, A lot of people I know think since they got away with it the first time, that they should keep doing it.
Though, I'm sorry to attack you bro.
I'm firmly against alcohol and drugs simply because I have seen the effects that it has on people. Now I know some people may be able to be responsible with them, but for the most part people aren't responsible with them and therefore I oppose them fircely.
