Well I'm in my sophomore year and my football career for high school is half over. But I have been lifting hard and staying in shape to hopefully get a scholarship to play somewhere at least. Looking at some D2 schools. Problem is, I don't think I'm going anywhere simply because of height. I'm a DB but I'm only 5'7, but then again, as long as I'm fast and can play the ball well, what's holding me back? But you don't know these days. I just wanted to see if anyone else was looking to go somewhere to play a sport. I run a 4.7 40, which obviously needs to get better, but with the lifts I do, shouldn't be too much of a problem for something that is 2 years away. I squat 250 with a max of 300. Bench I rep 135 with a max of 150. Bench obviously needs work. But I just wanted to compare with some people. I lift hard every day. I also wanted to see if anyone thought I had a shot at playing in college if I kept lifting and improved my 40 to at least a 4.4. But I somehow think 5'7 is holding me back. Any other 40 times out there? Bench amounts? Squat amounts? BTW, at my school we do the Bigger, Faster, Stronger program which includes power cleans and dead lifts.

I'm playing soccer, hockey, and golf right now. The only sport I have a shot at playing D1 college would be golf, although I think it's possible that I could play D2/3 in any one of them if I keep getting better.
My 40 time is a 4.8 and I can max bench 150, but those aren't bad considering I'm only 5'5". I've always wanted to get dirty at something and then act like I felt disrespected because of my height and act like that's what made me get better haha.
Hopefully you'll grow a few inches by the end of HS Spartan, it sounds like you've got a good shot to play in college.

I figure if I just keep building my leg muscles that I will be able to jump higher and then my height won't be as much of a factor, but it will always be there. Seems how college receivers are in the 6'2-6'4 range. I guarantee I won't be 6'.
But yeah, I do squats 4 times a week, and bench every day. Mix in calf raises, run, eat a lot (healthy). So I guess all I can do is keep working.
TJ, I would think you would be a good hockey player. I don't know why, but I have always thought you were very good at hockey.

I promise you, if you really are pretty good at the high school level, you can get into a D2 school no doubt. Your height might hurt you a little bit but I know someone who 5'6" and went D2 Bloomsburg and stood about the same height if not smaller. Doesn't guarantee you'll play, you earn that, but I think if you're good you can get on.

And you're a Sophmore? You've got plenty of time and I wouldn't doubt you gain another inch or two come Senior year. Enjoy high school man, don't think about this too much yet, next year you can worry about it.

i think any form of athletic competition on here can't be taken serious. But seeing as sports and stuff.......
Ive played hockey for 18 years and this upcoming season will be my 19th. Ive played in Minnesota, Ohio, Utah, and Oklahoma. Ive played every level. Youth, Travel, High School, Junior Hockey, College Adult League, and while I haven't played pro yet, I am considering taking my upcoming summer and traveling to New Zealand to play in thier pro league. (Our Summer is thier Winter). I'm not gonna say I'm good, but I'm gonna say I'm pretty awesome. As far as weight training, Ive never really worked out and I don't care to. I now workout too keep my body in shape but as far as growing up I never cared to workout for Hockey. As far as a 40 time in Hockey I once skated around a olympic sized ice sheet (Larger than a standard/NHL sized rink) in 14.35 seconds, hand timed. My slap shot speed has hit 70s consistantly, but these stats don't really work up against football workout times.
oh and Im 5'10 155(now) when I played college I was 165-170.

Seriously though, I'm going to be seeing what I can do with middle distance, our program is pretty well known around New England, and I get to go to a lot of invitationals. I'm also going to run AAU track, which hopefully I can win my age group in the 400m/800m, provided I don't get hurt I think I'll be in fine shape.
My acceleration has improved a ton just over the indoor season, I'm probably running a pretty fast 40 right now, wouldn't know for time, but I've run a sub 7.00 60m. Keep in mind that's electronic, unlike 40 times which are measured on the dumbest possible scale. It's a testament to football that something that ridiculous is used as a measurement, a hand-time "40".

running a 4.7 at sophomore is not bad at all dude. actually its really good i bet by senior year ur running a 4.5 at least. Your height might hurt u like a little but not a bunch, just tell ur coach ur interested in playing college ball and they will get u in some year.
If ur telling the truth u will have no problem playin football somewhere, Shit I know I could of played somehwhere and Im like 5-5, 145, and my 40 is 4.8. The only thing colleges really liked about me were hands and my pro-agility which was a 4.17 one of the fastest in the state. But I knew I would have to get a lot bigger and with two bum shoulders and a basically done hip I opted out.

If ur telling the truth u will have no problem playin football somewhere Haha, I have no reason to lie. If I was going to lie I would have said I was like 6'0 at least haha. My family has a history of strong legs so I'm just following that up with my squatting. Bench, obviously needs to get better to play in the big time. But yeah my height is what I'm worried about. I'm also trying to improve my acceleration. I'm not very tall, just very quick. It's not hard when your 5'7 130.

LOL, I must be really nasty if you can tell that I'm good over a message board haha. My 40 is probably slower than what I said because I forgot about it being hand timed and not electronic. I'm probably in the low 5s.

Spartan you will grow a couple inches and can put on as much weight as you want, and still may never be D2 material. You just have to go out there and have fun. Your 40 time is great for a young kid, just keep working on your fundementals and never let anyone outwork you.
I am seriously persuing a career as professional triathlete. I signed on with a local junior team and have committed to them this summer to train with their elites. I am going to try and qualify for the ITU Long Course Junior Championships. My coach is really pushing me hard so I have high expectations, but the chances of cutting it is slim. At best I will probably end up being an age group athlete and win those prize awards, but I could really break out. I need to work on my bike leg, which would require me to invest in an expensive bike (my club would cover half of that), but I have to consider college and whether or not I am willing to give that up for now.
As for my times, in an olympic distance triathlon (1.5 mile swim/24.8 mile bike/6.2 mile run) I can maintain a 1:20/100 yd swimming pace, 22 MPH on the bike, and 6:20 miles. I need to lower the swim time by about three seconds per 100yds, raise my bike speed to about 26, and run sub 40 minutes in my 10K's.
