You can always rent an apartment for way cheaper. buying and renting is often about the same price... it's just the upkeep that is cheaper </anal retentive correcting> But at the same time, if you're 18 and bitching about parents controlling you, you have the ability to do something about it, therefore, no bitching allowed.

But if you sign a 1 year lease for about 700 a month thats only $8,400 a year. I don't know what the housing market is around other peoples areas but I'm pretty sure you can't find a house that cheap anywhere.

Especially if you look into renting with a couple roommates.

I'm aware... I just felt like being contradictory - everyone else is being a tool lately, I can too :-)
My apartment before I bought my house was $714 a month.... my mortgage now (pre homeowners insurance, etc) is $825 - but safe to say my house is 200x better than my apartment. BUT, the big thing, is I bought my house for $135k here - same house elsewhere runs much much more.... ~$500k in NE, ~$400k in Fla/Cali, etc.

Yeah, I'm probably going to be shelling out 600 a month next year for a condo here in Oxford. Location makes it worth it, plus ya know it's pretty f'n nice. If that doesn't work, I'm splitting an apartment with four people for cheaper.
For the location and how f'n nice it is (will be the nicest house I've ever been in) totally worth it.

A place, that's like 200 yards from the Square (where all the bars are) and across the street from somewhere I late night at every now and then...that's so damn money.
The tail I'll be able to pull...you have no idea

There are condos on the beach going for 1.25 million and then the houses in the hood are still going for a good $125k. I got mine for $350k with a lot of help from my parents that I'm going to be paying off until I'm like 30.
