Ok so I was talking to my friends today about this whole china-tibet-olympics bull and all 5 of them were in agreeance that all the countries should boycott and the China should be reprimanded for their actions. I believed the contrary (although I believe China should give back tibetans their freedom) that the Olympics have nothing to do with global politics.
So now I ask this: Am I the only one that sees the ridiculousness of protesting human rights violations after what 100, maybe 200 protesters are killed trying to free tibet when HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people are slaughtered in Darfur? Does anyone else see this? Seriously the only reason this tibet crap is getting any real media time is because of these peusdo wsih-washy anti-establishment protesters who think there cool for climbing up the Golden Gate Bridge and waving flags. All they're cause is unneccessary hardship for the upstanding citizens of the cities their swarming by holding up traffic and creating chaos.
This tibet thing would get 5 minutes of airtime over here (5 minutes more than darfur) if not for the olympics, sandwiched somewhere between cooking secrets and the troubleshooter. Don't get me wrong I think Tibet deserves freedom but seriously people start protesting actually atrocites! Please, for your sake so you don't come off looking like dicklocks.

All human rights atrocities deserve national attention. The difference is that China physically occupies Tibet, where as they are merely an arms supplier in the genocide occurring in Sudan.
The Olympic games should not be boycotted because they are not political. That being said, propaganda events, such as the torch tour, and ceremonies, certainly can and should be.
Both are terrible problems that people here have been vocal about. Tibet events in the US have been occurring for a long time. Just last year, Real Salt Lake played the Chinese national team in a scrimmage, in which several fans unfurled Tibetan flags. Their flags were confiscated and they were removed, and in MLS circles, it became a hot discussion issue (that didn't get media coverage).
