So last year a family friend was in the Derby and he took me to take care of the horse. I didn't do much but walk it. Well this year my Dad has a horse that is on the Derby list this year.
To get into the Kentucky Derby you need to have a certain amount of money to get in. We only had $50,000 leading up to this race and needed about $100,000 to guarantee a spot. We ended up winning today and earned $90,000 bumping the horses total to $140,000. That's around 23rd and only 20 run in the Derby. We need 3 in the top 20 NOT to go to Kentucky and then we will be on our way.
Hey Byrn was the horse that was 4th 2 weeks ago in the Florida Derby. He won today and the race was live on ESPN and Hank loves our horse. He kept asking my Dad a whole bunch of questions, I was just happy to shake his hand after the race...he can't even say 3 words without taking a big deep breath.

good luck to you - would be cool to make it in. How often do those qualified not attend?

Quite often. Sometimes horses from California don't want to make the trip all the way to Kentucky and some get hurt. We should be ok at this point because 2 have confirmed they aren't going.
