Finally, I Get Time.
Wow guys, sorry it took this long to finally update you on what has been going on in my life.
For starters, we almost ran the table in the last ten games. We lost twice, to Saint Mary's, exactly one month ago today, and Santa Clara. Those games were a piece, let me tell you. But, I'll go with each game, give you a better idea.
So after that embarassing loss to Memphis, we took on Portland. Now, Portland had our number from earlier in the season when we embarassed them. So they came out strong and gave us a run for our money, but we escaped 73-77. I had a double-double that game, 13 points, 10 assists. It was that game that I decided if I want to win a national title I better start playing hard in the easy games. While this game did come to the wire, I didn't stress on it, rather, I played hard and let it all happen.
Next game was Santa Clara, and we beat them 79-70, which was another close game but it wasn't as close as it looked. I was on fire that game, 28 points on 12-16 shooting including 4-5 behind the arc. With 8 minutes left and us leading 55-39, we subbed in our bench and they gave up a lot of points, 31 to be exact. The Broncos ran a fast break on our slower squad, but when Robert Sacre, another freshman friend of mine, swatted 3 straight shots, Coach Few decided to keep them in, and ultimately it paid off as we got the win.
Now it's time to document the Saint Mary's loss, which made me mad. I was ejected from the game with 10 minutes remaining for having two technical fouls, and as a result, we folded because I was the only one who was making shots that night. We lost 58-70, and I contributed 11 points to lead the team. It was sort of a pathetic game, but we knew that we were going to lose because Josh and Jeremy were out with ankle sprains which they got two games ago. I couldn't do it all, but hey, that's life.
Pepperdine then came calling for a rematch after we kicked the crap out of them earlier in the season. This time was the same result, we won 64-83. I scored 20, grabbed 6 boards, and dished off 3 dimes in the win. They really didn't have an answer for us the whole night, as we were hitting shots in their faces and whatnot, and it showed when they started to try to go one on one with us, not passing the ball, etc. What's sad is that they have potential to be a decent team, but there's no structure to them.
Loyola Marymount and San Francisco were both up next and they were pretty much the same. We beat Loyola 56-74 and San Fran 90-64. I didn't play much in either game because of headaches, so the bench got to work on them a bit, and I was impressed. We actually have a pretty deep bench, which most people don't realize. So for us to go in there and beat a starting five with our bench is impressive. We did it to both teams, so I think the nation is going to take notice soon.
San Diego I didn't play in, but we beat them 84-61. I had the flu and couldn't play, and as a result, did not travel, but I heard it was just a butt-whipping the entire time. Good for us, we needed an easy win.
We played Portland after San Diego, and I scored 25 points on them in one half, sitting out the second. We beat them 45-100. They didn't have three of their starters due to various injuries, and we took advantage of that and destroyed them. I was happy to beat them, because they were talking crap the last meeting and it was time to shut them up. We did so, and it was just a great feeling.
Saint Mary's came up again, and we beat them 49-69. I didn't really score much, 11, but I was in at point a lot so Jeremy could slowly work back. I dished off 9 dimes and grabbed 5 boards this game, so it was a solid overall game for us.
Our last matchup was against Santa Clara, who we lost to 76-75. I tried taking the final shot and missed, a 12 foot fadeaway. Oh well, we are still conference champs, so I'll take that over anything. They didn't really play well, but then again, neither did I. So I'll give it to them.
Allright guys, next time you hear from me will be after the conference tournament, and hopefully, after two NCAA tournament games!!!! Wish us luck!
