Do you think it is fair that these children are being kept away from their mothers on the grounds of sexual abuse?
Personally, I think these kids need to be away from this lifestyle. Whether the sexual abuse occurred or not, I don't think it is fair to children to put them in that life when there is a chance of sexual abuse.
My favorite was the lady who said the state taking her children away was comparable to the atrocities suffered by Jewish people under Nazi rule.

If they aren't abusing there children and are telling the truth, I don't see how you can keep them away. Taking the kids is away is ridiculous. Thats how they were raised and they can raise their children however they want to. If the child doesn't want to follow in those footsteps then when they are 18 they can leave and start their own life.

That I think is the problem with these kind of places. The children are sheltered from the outside world, not knowing of what life can be like. A lot of these kids are born and raised in this place, being told that current life for them is the only way. That, however, is the choice of the parents and should not be the reason these kids are kept away.
The thing is, until everything is cleared up, the mothers should not be allowed to see them. Some of the mothers are brainwashed, and might just spread false ideas onto the children. They may attempt to convince these children that this man was allowed to have sex with them for whatever reason. I am going to be realistic here and say that to some degree, some sexual relationships deal with a mild form of "brainwashing" (instilling certain beliefs onto people)*. However, using certain beliefs --"brainwashing"-- to have sex with minors is wrong.
* - A girl believing a guy loves her and then sleeping with him is what I mean. Nothing intense or cult-like. Simply convincing a woman that a guy loves them to have sex with them happens a lot.

I am really conflicted on this one, I want to say they are free to do what they please, but my distaste for religion in general eats away at me when you see such a sick situation.

The thing is though, with the way the've been raised, I would like to see the crime rate in there town. I bet it's around 0%. Maybe if we all were to live life like they do the world could be a better place. I'm not supporting there ways at all but it seems the crime rate is way lower with these types as well as the Omish.

It all comes down to how you define crime. If you define crime as vandalism, assault, etc., you are dead on. However, can we overlook the crime of oppressing free-thinking with brainwashing?

There is enormous amounts of crime, it is just been suppressed because "that's the way it is" in isolated societies like the one at hand. Nevermind the moral brainwashing that occurs in these places, and the camps in which there often is simply no way out. A great deal of these groups HAVE been charged with crimes (the one in the media's leader was charged with rape), and are quite frankly disgusting institutions that probably shouldn't exist. But that's the kind of stuff you have to accept in a free society. For the record though, I have nothing against polygamy, there are plenty of good arguments towards monogamous marriage being antiquated that while I disagree with, I completely understand.

I didn't go to far with the brainwashing theory. I've never met any of those people so I don't know. Maybe some of them wanted to follow in the parents footsteps. I'm sure there have been some teens that want to get away from that lifestyle and the parents didn't let them so maybe they were beating them. I think if this is the case, then the parents should not see the kids. If they want to live there own life then thats there right when they turn 18.

I think the best thing to do is keep the kids away for around 2 weeks and let them enjoy the freedoms we had/have. Going to school with friends, watching TV, computers, etc. After that ask them if the parents ever did anything to them like sexual abuse or just plain abuse.
Then after that they should be given a choice. If they want to return with their parents, let them. If they don't want to then let them go into foster care and maybe they will find a better place to live.

I watched them on CNN the other, they acted like someone was telling what them to say, and they wouldn't look at camera. My favorite part was when the lady likened what was happening to them, was like what happened to the Jews. That was the hardest I laughed in awhile.
