My mom was just given a buyout

Family is talking it over whether she should take it or not. I guess you never really know the effect of this terrible economy until it hits home. She has brought in 100k year after year and worked for this company close to 30 years. Now all of a sudden, they are thinking about cutting her.

The worst part is, my dad is a truck driver and my mom was the main source of our income. There is a chance that this may not happen so please hope for me guys!

Of course there is. But when you consider that finding a job, especially in Michigan is not easy, who knows how long that money will last. It's not like we were sitting there putting away 50,000 of it per year. I don't know how much is put away, it's not my business.

Frankly man, I wouldn't worry about it. Will she get the same job? Of course not. After 30 years in the business (whatever that may be), they will more than likely go younger. However, a job can still be found. Again, it won't be the same. Making that kind of money should make it last a while though (assuming they weren't total idiots with the money buying frivolous things that were never needed). Also, your dad still has a job. That is still money coming in. Lifestyle changes will need to be made of course, but man I wouldn't worry about much. Especially if she gets a buyout. It may not be great but it will be something more.

I actually was posting this to see if anyone else had a postive viewpoint on the topic that could maybe give me a better outlook on the situation. I was not asking people to say "OMG SORRYZ!!!". The country is going through a tough time all over and I thought it would be something to talk about on the board that maybe some people could relate too. Obviously you can relate Bstn, but no, you decided to be a prick instead. Thanks for your contribution.

You wanted sympathy. Man up and admit it. It's ok, a bad economy is tough on people. Even more so in a place like Michigan. Tough times do end though. I'm not sure how long out, but this thing will turn around. If we weren't so reliant on credit, this would be no sweat. I really really don't want to do that though. Everyone would be so poor without credit. Fuck that.
