This is the thread where you tell how you would rate your head coach, and why.
Before the National Championship game this season, Jim Tressel was one of the most underrated Coaches in America. He didn't get very much hype, until National Championship fever hit America, and ESPN was on his doorstep.
We may have lost the national championship game, but that doesn't to much to change what Jim Tressel has accomplished at this school. The man has a 62-14 record, and has won Three Big Ten Championships. Couple that with a 4-2 bowl record, and a 5-1 record against Michigan, and it is enough to earn the role of God in Ohio. You don't normally see Coach Tressel landing the five star prospect from Florida, Texas, or California. He lands the two, three, and four star prospects from Ohio. The kids that want to play for Ohio State, and the ones that fit his system.
That's just my opinion of Jim Tressel. He completely turned this program around. In Cooper's final two seasons, we went from a consistent Title contender, to a team lucky to make the Top 25. Tressel changed that, and he brought us back to the amount of success enjoyed under Woody Hayes.
What do you think of your coach?
Also, here's my opinion on the Top Ten Coaches of All-time (Let's Stick with Division 1-A).
1. Knute Rockne 2. Bud Wilkinson 3. Tom Osborne 4. Paul "Bear" Bryant 5. Joe Paterno 6. Bobby Bowden 7. Darryl Royal 8. Woody Hayes 9. Bo Schembechler (Would have been higher, but zero National Championships) 10. Left Empty (Too Many Good Candidates)
Honorable Mention: Pete Carroll (Depending on if he stays, and how he does, he could finish at #1), Jim Tressel, Frank Beamer (Needs to win a National Championship), Urban Meyer (Very Young, but could became an All-Time Great), Lloyd Carr (Needs to have more seasons like 1997, and 2006), Ara Parseghian, Steve Spurrier.

On a scale of 1 to 10:
Bobby Ross - 1 (He was God-awful. And he accepted the death penalty of not running the wishbone. At least he was marginally better than Todd Berry.)
Stan Brock - 0 (He would be higher, but he hasn't coached, and he looks like he's gonna keep the same base offense. Props to him for firing Ross' son though.)

Nick Saban: Uh........I'm pretty pumped about him. I worry he's too stubborn of a defensive playcaller though, and his defense will give up too many big plays this season. Will definatly be a huge upgrade to Mike Shula. Top Coaches of All Time: 1. Bear Bryant 2. Wallace Wade 3. Frank Thomas 4. Gene Stallings I can't think of any more.

Im pretty damn happy with Urban Meyer as I stated before. The University of Florida has a very bright future with him as head coach, not very many can coach like him and recruit like he does. We used to have the recruiting (Zook) but needed a coach with discipline and the smarts to lead that talent to SEC and National Championships.

John L. Smith: 1 for obvious reasons
Mark Dantonio: 8, so far I like his efforts and I think he can turn this program around. He is trying hard to get recruits and I like that. Smith did JUCO's and it never worked.

Dantonio is a fabulous Coach. I know first hand from what I saw throughout his tenure as Defensive Coordinator at ole Ohio State.

I just like his attitude. He has the mindset that he will turn it around, and I like he has no time for BS.
There is a recruiting conference where I live, and Smith received 3 invites and never came. Dantonio said he would be glad to come. He is also a high school recruiter and I love that. I hate JUCO.
He is already looking at game film for next season. I don't expect him to work wonders with what we have next season, but he will do better than Smith i think.

In a historical sense, JoePa gets a 10, but as of late he gets a 7 or 8.

Well June Jones has brought a re-brith to the islands... before he came in Fred Von Appen was a horrible coach. June Jones turned a 0-12 team to a 9-4 team in one season. His playbook although widely considered a joke but has brought big points and a fun to watch team every game. This season he passed to be the leading Hawaii Wins coach ever.. I can't imagine how Hawaii would be without him...

Stoops is a great coach but we just haven't been the same since Mike left, and Sportsbuck where is Bud Wilkinson. He is one of the greatest coaches of all time. Couldn't believe you didn't even mention him.
Bud Wilkinson 145-29-4 Total Wins 82.6% Winning Percentage 3 National Championships 93-9-3 Conference Records 90.0% Conference Winning Percentages 14 Conference Championships 6-2 Bowl Record 28-18-1 Record vs. Top 25 47 Game Winning Streak (NCAA Record)

The reason I left Wilkinson off my list is because I was trying to stay within the current era. By that, I mean, the last year of a Coaches career was to be at least from 1970-Today. This was just a list I made up in 10 minutes, so it doesn't mean much.

He's obviously the best coach ever, because he was the first to coach from the grave. It's amazing really, a coach to die in March of 1931 and still coach in 1970. Yeah, I'm just being mean. So what.

Mental Retardation by me.
I'll add him in. But don't start the flow of "Why didn't such and such get in?" posts. That was my opinion. You can voice your own on your time.

I wouldn't really listen to Mandel. He's quite the idiot. As evidenced by him only listing Gailey as third worst.

David has been through a lot this year.
I mean, he had to deal with Reggie Ball, and Jake Delhomme. Not to mention Dan Henning.

Missouri's coach, Gary Pinkel, led his team to an 8-5 mark and the Sun Bowl, in a year when they were picked fifth or sixth in a weak Big 12 North. Mandel's a Big 10 homer, from what I've read.
