<b>Piniella Hopes Moves Pay Off</b></font></p>

Petersburg, FL -</b> With the season nearly here, Devil Rays
manager, Lou Piniella, has made several changes to the roster. Starting
pitchers Jeremi Gonzalez (R) and Mark Hendrickson (L) have been sent to
Durham. Gonzalez finished last season with a 6-11 record and a 3.91
ERA. Hendrickson just came in after two seasons in Toronto with a 9-9
record last season and a 5.51 ERA.</font></p>
<p style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;"
align="left"><font size="2">With Gonzalez and
Hendrickson in Durham, the Rays to bring up Dewon Brazelton (R) and
Jason Standridge (R), leaving John Halama as the only left handed
pitcher on the Rays starting rotation. Though Brazelton has a 1-7 major
league record, his outstanding play for the Bulls last season has
caught Piniella's attention. Standridge also has a poor MLB record at
0-5, but his play in AAA baseball has made Piniella bring him up.</font></p>
<p style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;"
align="left"><font size="2">More pitching
changes have been made as Mike Williams (R) has been called up from
Durham to become the new closer for the Devil Rays. Though Williams has
not played in a major league game since the 2001 season, he's another
AAA standout. Former Indian's closer, Danys Baez (R), has been sent
down to Montgomery even though he had 46 saves last season. John Rocker
has moved close for the Durham Bulls. Though after Rocker left Atlanta
in 2001, he has struggled to find a team to call home.</font></p>
<p style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;"
align="left"><font size="2">Rumors have also
been circulating that Piniella was wanting to go after catcher Ivan
Rodriguez, but Devil Rays C.E.O. Vincent Naimoli will not spend the
money needed to obtain the contract wanted by Rodriguez.<br>

Piniella, took over the position in late 2002. By the time the 2003
season rolled around, 59 year old Piniella lead the Rays to only 63
wins that season, seven wins short of setting a franchise record.
Piniella has had a long career, starting in 1986 with the New York
Yankees. In 1990, Piniella's first season coaching the Cincinnati Reds,
he lead the team to a World Series Championship. In 1993, Piniella took
over the job in Seattle, with an amazing .716 winning percentage in
2001. Now in Tampa, the Rays fans are hoping that the Tampa native will
bring some of his magic back home.</p>
