I have some questions and hopefully some of you can answer them. First, where is Alex Rodriguez playing. I went onto the WBC site and him and Marco Scutaro are just in a box w/o a country. Also, how is Mike Piazza, a Pennsylvania born person, playing for Italy's team?

I don't understand why though. HE IS AMERICAN. I know heritage is important, but he was born here. It just confuses me.

I think the reason why A-Rod isn't with a country is because he has not declared what country he will play for (not sure which countries he is eligible for) or that not country added him to their roster.

He's between Dominican Republic and USA (like Piazza, he was born here, but his family is from another country [Dominican Republic])

It's the same rules as the World Cup...if you have a close relative from another country, you may decide to play for that team if you wish.

If a relative was born in that country, you can have citizenship there, and thus, play for their national team.
I only know because T.J. Sorrentine is playing in Italy due to his parents being born there

I just hink what A-Rod is doing is wrong. I mean I would understand if he had dual citizenship but come on he can play for them cause his parents were born there. Seriously I think ARod needs to reevaluate his mental status after making this decision. He decide to represent a country that he wasn't born in and never lived in, while turing his back on a country and fans that pay him 250 mil to play a FRIGGIN GAME. I mean talk about ungrateful.

It doesn't matter who he plays for because either way the Dominican Republic si going to completely dominate this entire thing.

He's very proud of his latin heritage...I don't think there's a problem with that. It's not like the U.S. will be lacking players, anyway...A-Rod playing for the D.R. allows someone like Hank Blalock to take a spot on the team instead. As for Piazza playing catcher for Italy, that probably won't matter because he's washed up anyway and can't throw. What sucks now is that the U.S. government isn't going to let Cuba play in the WBC, even though they have one of the world's best national teams. You absolutely cannot have a legitimate WBC without one of the world's best teams. Having the WBC without Cuba would be like having a World Cup of Football without the United States. The whole thing would be kind of cheapened if one of the best teams isn't allowed to play, IMO.

I saw on ESPNEWS that a New York newspaper reported A-Rod will not be playing in the World Baseball Classic.

I don't think the game is going to be what interests me, I am just wondering how many dominicans and cubans plan on defecting in the WBC.
