Okay I made this bet with this kid yesterday for 20 bucks. If Ottawa, Vancouver, Detroit, or Nashville win the Cup, I win. If the Flyers or Flames win, nobody wins. If any other team wins, he wins. I like my chances, of not losing anyways. The original deal was the Flyers, Calgary, Carolina, and Detroit, with Ottawa neutral, but I switched the Flyers and Ottawa around, exchanged Carolina for Nashville and Vancounver, and made Calgary neutral.
So would you bet on that john?

You win because Ottawa is hands down the best team in the league.

You will win or atleast tie, cause Ottawa, Detroit, Philly, and Calgary > rest of the NHL.

Good idea on your part. But the only reason I really exchanged Carolina was because I felt safer picking two 2nd place teams in the West that could slip into the Finals on the West. Yeah Carolina is hot right now, but this 12-1 stretch they're on now probably isn't going to last by the time they go on that 10 games in 18 days with 9 of those games on the road to some tough 2nd place teams and the Flyers...

It's called hot goaltending and a young, energetic team. And as season's go on, both of those fade away.

They said that after the first 10 games, then a quarter thru the season, then a third, then halfway, now were over 50 games and Carolina is still in first.

Also, they are in majorly weak division. The Lightning are NOT the same team that won the cup, the Thrashers are forever doomed to mediocrity and the Panthers just like to suck. When they make the playoffs, a superior team will show them the door.

I'm not saying they are, but this 4-6 skid they're on (back to back losses to the Panthers, losing to Boston wtf) could be an early sign. But I give you guys credit. Staal has been a beast for me in fantasy...
Also, lucky for you guys, you got Washington 4 times in these last 12 games or so...

As predicted, the Canes are slowing and will be hurting come playoff time. Martin Gerber isn't taking anyone to the Stanley Cup.

But you have to believe that if they play a team like Montreal or even Tampa Bay in the 1st round, and then one of those teams or the Rangers in the 2nd, they have a very strong shot at making it to the ECF, where who knows how hard or easy the team they play will be.
Although you are right about Gerber, he hasn't been neary as hot as he was, and Carolina has given up the 3rd most goals out of any Eastern Conference playoff team...
