Has anyone seen about this?
The link to the video is on ESPN.com's NHL page.
Basically, Ryan Halloweg of the Rangers hit Simon from behind, sending him face first into the glass. Simon obviously wasn't happy about that so after he got up he wound up and slashed Halloweg directly in the face. When will these guys learn? As far as i'm concerned, Simon deserves a year for this. It was an obvious intent to injure and he really could've injured Halloweg. It's like the damn Bertuzzi incident all over again, except this version of Steve Moore doesn't have a broken neck.

What a pussy. Fight him, don't slash him in the face.

They need to think about not only the reprecussions for themselves, but the league as well. If he have incidents like this as often as we do, the NHL won't be known for anything except muggings on ice.

I'm really pissed Simon did this. After hearing about him on that HBO Inside Sports show or whatever it was that aired a week or so ago about Ted Nolan, I really wished that guy well. And now just a few days later, he does exactly what he said Ted Nolan made him stop doing, and that's doing idiotic things like that. He should unquestionably be done the rest of the season and playoffs...

I actually think he should get not only the rest of this year (15 games) and the playoffs, but all of next year and the possible playoffs. Crap like this can't be tolerated.

All of next year too? Hollweg wasn't even hurt on the play. I am not saying he should get a slap on the wrist but all of next year is a bit ridiculous. I think it should be the rest of the year including playoffs and a hefty fine.

Yeah, I too am a little iffy on next season as well, but definitely a nice fine. Fines matter more to hockey players than to the NBA players and their spoiled asses, which David Stern wipes regularly...

So what, he swings and hits Hollweg in the throat and the injury becomes extremely serious, then he gets the heavier penalty? No. He knew damn well what he was doing when he took the swing. It's not like he got up and Hollweg was right there. He laid there, thought about it, took a few strides and swung. And that gets me thinking too: Bertuzzi was brought up on charges of assault for his hit on Moore. Why shouldn't the same go for assaulting a guy with your stick? Should it matter how hurt the guy was? Simon deserves a SEVERE penalty. The rest of this year isn't enough.

Speaking of charges I completely disagree with people being allowed to sue/be charged with a crime in sports. Where will they draw the line? If they let people sue for what happens to them in sports soon people will stop playing sports because if they do they might hurt someone and then they're screwed for life. Personally the courts should stay out of sports period.

Here you go. This should make a lot of people happy. sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2794638The NHL suspended New York Islanders forward Chris Simon for the regular season and playoffs, a minimum of 25 games that could carry into next season.

Its not so much that i'm obsessive about being harsh about just this, but as an NHL fan, I want it to succeed and crap like this just gives the game a bad name. I really think the league needs to take strong methods to keep its own guys from acting like morons.

This is an NHL-record suspension. It's not like they're going weak on it. It sends a message, and if it keeps up the penalties will just keep getting more severe.
I wouldn't worry. I think it's more than fair.

Well, it's not like he ruined the entire sport by taking performance enhancing drugs or gave the thug-name to his sport by starting a brawl with players and fans...

Why wouldn't criminal charges be brought? He tried to freakin' decapitate him and he gets a free pass because its hockey. I know the nature of the sport is rough, but this is beyond hockey.

If someone walked up to you on the street and swung a hockey stick at your head, would you press charges? Damn right you would.
