OMG The Germans attacked Pearl Harbor and Jesus riding on a dino and such. Obviously the man's view on the Civil War isn't that simplistic. I saw him in an interview on Real Time With Bill Maher and he got into the state's rights thing and what not. This is one of the reasons I will not be voting for Paul, but taking a snippet from an interview and using that to decide the validity of a candidate is one of the biggest problems in American politics today. This is one area that I feel Nute Gingrich is dead on about. Instead of these "sound-bite" debates, I wish we could get the candidates together for a 90 minute debate on a specific issue. You know, so the people can hear a real plan laid out and see which of them have the ideas that most fit them. All we get today are sound-bites, little 30 second answers that give us no actual information. I mean really, all elections come down to is if the person is likable or not. It's that simple people. Money doesn't matter, party doesn't matter (Indies decide who wins, the two parties core cancel each other out), policy doesn't matter. I'm not trying to point you out here Sportsbuck, this is just one thing I'm annoyed about with our political process.

The thing that annoys me most about our political process......is the political process.

What he's saying isn't exactly stupid. Asides from the fact that his personal views on what happened 150 years ago is almost completely irrelevant, that actually shows that he actually would give a rats ass about our troop situation and wouldn't want people dying in senseless wars. This Mr. Russert is an idiot for assuming we'd still have slavery. Is there a chance it would still exist? Yes very much so, but Paul made the point that nobody, with the exception of the chaos in Africa (which really didn't start until later) really had slavery issues. Eventually it would seem that it would phase out eventually.
But really, nobody should give a rats ass about what a presidential candidate thinks about a historical event 150 years ago unless it's completely un-patriotic. All I'm seeing is a guy who thought 600,000 Americans dying should have been avoided...

Hey, at least he's not saying we should quarantine people with AIDS, we wouldn't want a front running politician with a stance like that... oh wait...

Ron Paul is a jackass. Not sure how or why so many people are backing him besides his stereotypical behavior. Seriously, he seems to be targetting the over-the-edge punk kids or some shit with some of the things he says. The only belief system I've yet to see him try to connect himself with is being straight edge, but I'm sure he'll do it if it means he sways more stupid kids.

There are a lot of Ron Paul signs on my way to campus. There is a huge one draped on the side of the mountain. Yeah...

I just read a chapter of history. The Civil War was inevitable, and yes, slavery was the major cause because it caused the other causes.

Yes, it was the major cause, but it wasn't the end all cause it's made out to be, meaning that there were other contributing causes. That was the point I was trying to make but it was 1:30 in the morning, and I had just listened to Lou Holtz speak, so cut me some slack.

No, but his voice alone makes you lose around 50 IQ points. That and he seems to pile up more gunk on the sides of his mouth than any other old person in the world.

Alright, he says that it isnt necessary to go to war to end slavery. We didnt go to war to end slavery, the civil war was about other things. Slavery ended anyway.
The comment "We'd still have slavery" is incredibly misguided and erroneus.

In summation,
Ron Paul is the man and all you better vote for him in primaries.

Even though I'm a republican, I wouldn't vote for Paul in the primaries. He reminds me of my nutty grandfather. There are other candidates I trust and agree with more.

I'd trust my cat more than Ron Paul when it comes to running the country.

He's more on mark than most of the GOP candidates. All of them are a bunch of big government types (God I hate using that term, but it sums up what I'm trying to say) who are just going to borrow and spend our generation into a debt that will blow your mind. At least Paul wants to cut spending. What a crazy idea. The current guys running for President in the Republican party are crap IMO. Rudy "9/11" Giuliani, Mike "Jesus Rules" Huckabee, and Mitt Romney don't exactly induce much love in my heart.
