So today I was looking at the local newspaper to see something that caught my eye. The person of the year for the area I guess was named. It was the one high school football player. I am sorry but doesn't that just make you scratch your head and go what the Fred Flinstone? Especially considering the local praise the mayor received for his ideas regarding illegal immigration.

I don't see what the big deal is.

He played football. That is it. He didn't have an impact on society or anything like so many other local people have. I just have trouble finding that simply playing a sport well makes you person of the year material. If that held true, does a guy like Kobe Bryant deserve an award?

It depends, because I could see it. As a football player, and a high school football player at that, you have a huge impact on your town. Hell, in my old town, if our high school team lost the town was essentially depressed that entire weekend. The next week comes, we win, and BOOM! Town is alive with parties all weekend, and the morale is instantly boosted.

I understand that. It is just when the mayor garners national attention for his work regarding illegal immigration, you think that would beat out a high school athlete.

Clearly if this kid was that great or football was that significant, Freak would understand. People are just stupid, so what are you gonna do?

True that, but it really depends on the society. I know that in my old town, when we won state, the economy improved as did the morale, and the local paper there actually made a chart showing that the economy was at it's highest points when the football team was successful.

The dependency on football teams in areas is really sad.
Our person of the year will likely be a volunteer of some sort, normally is.
