I feel like not as many people on here play a spring sport.
My first meet is next Tuesday, small home one, hoping to establish myself as a real states contender this year. I've had a great pre-season, and not playing soccer is definitely allowed me to tax my body more during workouts.

How do you have a school sport in the summer, I just don't get it.

How do you have a school sport in the summer, I just don't get it. Instead of waking up, school, practice/game, its just waking up, do whatever, go to practice/game at set time. Really isn't that different. Just you dont get a lot of press from the school paper or whatever, because you arent in school.

What are you running tomorrow keeper? I miss spring track, and sprinting. Most of my runs now are usually 45 mins. I'd kill to go back and run for the team again. I don't have my first triathlon until May so right now it is kind of monotonous.

It's going to be a boring meet for me, 400m and then 4x400. We're not even running a 4x100, we're just going to all sit around praying that some kids show up and perform well enough that we don't have to. I am not a short-distance sprinter by any means, but it looks as though I'm going to have to be on that relay. I'm alright with it though, I'm still in a utility role this year, I'm probably more of an asset in relays.
Hoping to run sub-54, I've never run an official 400m sub 54, even though I ran a 52.7 electronic split. I really can't see how I won't PR tomorrow (my official is like 55.31), so regardless of how it goes, it should be a good day.
Then I get to go scout the middle school meet the next day, and I've got a vacational meet in a week that I'm going to run the 800m in. I'm hoping to just give it everything and go for a 2:04 or so, I figure it's attainable if I managed to get a 1:29.3 600m. At worst, I'll bomb, and just drop out since no one cares about the meet, haha.

2:04 is definitely possible if you can run a strong first 600 (sub 1:30). I ran 1:58 indoors and my first three laps were 1:25 and then I just hoped I hadn't crapped my pants by the end. Keep us posted!

Ran the mile a couple days ago and didn't do as well as I hoped (4:52... 6 seconds off PR) but then a couple events later was the 800, and I said "hell with it, might as well give it a go" and ended up PR'ing at 2:08...
You guys hear about that kid who broke 14 in the 5K last week... that's sick as hell for a high schooler. It's about as rare as a sub-4 miler in HS...

I woke up sick, and bombed by 400's, haha. My times were PR's, but I ran so much slower than I know I'm capable of.
Been doing really well at workouts though, I'm hoping I can pull off a 2:08 800m at worst next week, and build from there. I need to put a good time up in the 400m though so that I can end up at the Hartford Invitational.

High School golf, we have our first match in a week and a few days. Today I shot rounds of 1 under and 1 over at my home course (a par 60 executive course, course record is my best friend with 6 under) while playing with a couple of my buddies. I'm looking to contend at states as a Sophomore this year. If I'm good enough to play in states for our team, it pretty much means that I'm going to New Englands because our team dominates the state, being the biggest school and all.

I think Iowa is the only sport with summer baseball...they need to play in the summer because if the fields...and it works just like any other sport...only you dont need to go to school as well to maintain your grade...
the downside to it is if you fail a class then you must sit out the entire season, you cant work your way back in

I won the open 800 Tuesday, in the first time I've ran it in a year. 2:08, and I probably could've gone a hell of a lot faster.
Tomorrow starts one of the years big meets, Burlington Invites, I'm running open 400 tomorrow night, and then 4x4 Saturday. Seeded 14th in the 400m with my slow time from that first meet, if I go sub 54 (which I feel I'm definitely capable of) I could wind up as high as 4th. Going to be interesting, there are a ton of made up seedtimes ahead of me that knocked me out of the fast heat unfortunately.
Also, I am qualified to run in the Hartford Invitation next weekend, which will be a good time even though I'll probably finish last.

Wound up being seeded 16th in the open 400... ran a 53.66 and finished sixth at one of the biggest meets of the season, beat every other sophomore by a fairly safe margin. Past week has probably been the best of my entire time involved in track.

Track always did seem fun. I never ran because I played football and was so drained from the season that the time off was great. Plus, I was lifting weights for most of the off-season.

I absolutely love track, just because it's such an awesome environment to be in. For the most part, you alone dictate how well you perform, and because it's not a structured team environment, you're pretty safe to just hang around with whoever you want. Plus I don't think there's a sport up here that better showcases sportsmanship than track does, everyone involved is really awesome.
