Canada University Sun Devils?

Just weeks after a fire burned down Temple University, it was announced that Canada would put up a school and take place as an Independent. The school, as reported by the Ottawa Sun, would be called Canada University.

The Ottawan newspaper also released the name of the school mascot and rival. In a surprising move, AD Jack McCallum took the name Sun Devils and even named the mascot Sparky.

The rival of the Canada University Sun Devils is the University of Michigan. This coming after Lloyd Carr reportedly declined to be interviewed for the head coaching job of the unversity's football program, and then said that the university "would never get off the ground."

As far as who will be the head coach of the Sun Devils, no one knows. As press conference is scheduled for later today.

Big Name to coach Sun Devils

The Athletic Director of Canada University, Jack McCallum. was going through the numerous sports that the university will have. He named all the head coaches, however he did not name a football coach. A man with sun glasses and a hat, who appeared to be a member of the media, asked, "Hey Jack, who's the football coach?"

"Well, to be honest I don't know." replied McCallum.

"Oh, but I think you do know," replied the man.

"I don't know who your source is, but you're mistaken," fired McCallum.

The man stood up removing his hat and sun glasses. The crowd gasped, and the flashes of hte cameras blinded everyone in the room.

One month ago, he resigned from a head coaching job in the NFL. He has coached on the national stage at Miami University, where he went 51-20. If you haven't guessed who it is, Butch Davis is the head of the Canada University football program.

Davis brings immediate crediblity and national attention to the Sun Devils' program.

"I'm happy to be coaching on the college level again. I missed the Saturday football and recruiting. Recruiting is something I take pride in. I'm going to work very hard to get as many Canada recruits as possible. "

I will be implementing more of a running offense. I know, we don't an Edgerrin James or Clinton Portis like I had at Miami, but we should be fine. I can't tell you much more than that at this point because I'm not sure of all what we have.

I like the fact the we are an Independent. It gives us a chance to go out and schedule whoever we want. I am excited to see who we can schedule this year. We won't have to deal with worrying about our conference, whether it's weak or where we are to winning it. We can just go out and play and just worry about overall wins and losses.

Yeah, recruiting in Canada will be tough. I remembered I tried to make a team in Canada once (I just wanted to play some games in the snow), but I just never started it for whatever reason.

Interesting idea though, I like the team name.

Arizona State defends their turf

The Canada University Sun Devils played in their program's first game. The results were less than surprising. A 42-21 thrashing by Arizona State.

"We could and should have won this football game. Now, I did discover something. Lonnie Edwards, our quarterback, has a great arm. As he got a few a deep ones, including the two passes to Thompson for touchdowns," recollected Davis.

ASU scored first off a 56 yard run. The second saw ASU score three times, an INT return and two TD passes by Keller. Canada University trailed 28-7.

Arizona State would score to open the third quarter, however an Edwards TD pass and a 9 yard run would cut to 35-21. A late Edwards pick, his fourth on the day, would be returned 85 yards.

only reason that I didn't make them a flat out cupcake was for competition, it's not fun for me if everything I do is pre-destined to fail
