Last season, under the leadership of American manager Matthew Breuer, Leicester surpassed all expectations, nearly making the journey to the lauded English Premier League. The young American, with only semi-professional experience under his belt, made an incredible impression on Leicester owner Milan Mandaric during his interview, and once the offer was on the table, Breuer quickly turned down offers from Blue Square Premiership sides to move up the table.
With a squad decidedly mediocre, Breuer was expected to guide the spot to the middle of the table. Given no transfer funds, Breuer was going to have to get creative when it came to replenishing the squads, especially with the consistancy that injury hit the side. However, help came in the form of loanee's Lee Martin, who stayed with the side all season, and Dong Fangzhou, who was with the club through January. The Manchester United duo provided the spark needed to help aid the team through their fixtures, and the side found themselves sitting in 9th at the end of January.
In the January transfer window, Breuer managed to off-load some of the weight on the side, freeing up the money to splash for a player. While Breuer chased the signature of New England Revolution midfielder Andy Dorman (who eventually wound up at another Colaship side), his real captures came in the form of Peter Mate, a defender on loan to Reading, who quickly impressed after joining the squad for a mere 180,000 pounds. Meanwhile, youth goalkeeper Martin Hansen was brought in for 32,000 pounds, and worked his way instantly into the first squad, finding himself on the pitch in league action after a series of injuries.
The result of this great Leicester form was a 5th place finish in the league, and a shot at promotion. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be for the Foxes, who stumbled to a 1-0 aggregate loss to Sheffield United. However, Breuer knew that the team wasn't ready for that level just yet. Instead, he focused on the transfer market, and looked to build a side capable of jumping to the Premiership.
Over the summer, he captured the following players:
Sal Zizzou - Breuer's biggest expense, the American right winger was brought in based on Breuer's prior knowledge of him. Bought for nearly 4 million pounds from Germany's Hannover 96, Zizzou will have to prove quickly that he is ready to show his worth. He is expected to immediately feature in the first eleven.
Lee Martin - After the great relationship developed last season, Manchester United was willing to put Lee out on loan once more, headed with this side for another year. He will have more competition for his position this season, but should he prove his worth, Breuer may try to make the move permanent in the January or summer transfer windows.
Keith Treacy - The former Blackburn reserve, Treacy was brought in for roughly 2 million pounds, and figures to be the first choice player from the left flank for Leicester. While not as strong of an attacker as Martin, Treacy has a few more years under his belt, and has developed a better all-around game
John Sutton - Sutton set the Coca-Cola League 2 scoring record last year, and Breuer figured it worth the money to test the 24 year old striker in more talented waters. He is expected to be the 4th choice striker for the Foxes, and should see considerable minutes under Breuer's attack first tactics.
Scott Evans - Brought in from the Liverpool U-18's, Evans will hope to make the jump to the first team sometime during the season. A talented left-back, he will compete with Kenton for minutes in the reserves.
Josh Lambo - Part of the Everton U-18 program, Lambo was another player who manager Breuer already knew from his following of the US youth program. A standout keeper at the age of 16, Lambo is now a year removed from his journey to Europe, and vastly improved. Still, he has a ways to go before he can really be considered for play in the Reserves, and is no where near the first team.
Chris Curran - Bought from the Manchester United U-18 program, the striker/attacking midfielder is ambitious enough to see himself within the reserves at the least by the end of the season. To do it, he'll need to make several leaps in his game.
It is also rumored the Leicester may be close to bringing in another American, Danny Szetela, from Spanish club Racing Santander. Szetela would be an expected first team member.
This is where the team stands, right now. This is their strory.

Update: August 16th, 2008
Results Oldham Athletic 0 - 1 Leicester City (Colaship) A somewhat drab affair, we were without a number of players due to international selection, away from home we managed to nick a goal when a shot from Sergio Hellings took a horrid deflection, to score an own goal and give us a narrow win. Nevertheless, the Foxes were in dominant form.
Transfer News: BOUGHT: Danny Szetela - Defensive/Right Midfielder - 200,000 pounds - from Racing Santander Versatile midfielder, should feature for us, especially in more defensive scenarios. Gives us better squad depth, and potential to offload one of our three talented young defensive midfielders
SOLD: James Chambers - Right Defense/Midfield - 1 million pounds - to Wolverhampton Wanderers I wasn't sure what my plans for Chambers would be this season. He featured well before breaking his leg last season, but players don't bounce back from injuries like that. He was third on my depth chart at right back, but I was keeping him around because we lacked a two-way right midfielder. With Szetela now in the fold, and Chambers crying to the media about "following his dreams", I had no problem letting him go for a bloated fee.
Other News: Four Leicester players are currently taking part in the 2008 Olympics in China, and have been absent from the squad.
Iran: Hosain Kaebi - Featured in all three games, no standout performances
Australia: James Wesolowski - Played in all three games, did a decent job
USA: Danny Szetela - Started the first two games, including a MOM performance against China where he tallied two assists. Subbed on late in third game, had been given a rest after the team had already ensured advancement Josh Lambo - Came on as a late sub in third game, didn't allow a goal.

That sucks Keepsy. Those FM seasons must take forever, so you probably wasted a day of your life for something that got deleted.
Shame too, because you were looking like the Fulham of the Championship.

Bring back the Catamounts!!!! Here here! I loved the Catamounts, I really did...but I have next to no time/interest for these things. I never even liked football, it was just the most popular thing on here. What made that dynasty work was I did it for DC; I was brand new, and wanted to prove myself because I was the youngest one around. Some of those articles were awful though, so many things I would do differently. But yeah, just not going to happen. I don't play video games anymore, I got on this FM kick, but haven't played since my file got deleted, and otherwise I play Super Mario Galaxy on occasion, that's about it. That sucks Keepsy. Those FM seasons must take forever, so you probably wasted a day of your life for something that got deleted. Shame too, because you were looking like the Fulham of the Championship. I had about 25 hours, aha. Love the game, but it's hard, I was really enjoying myself, I don't want to start from scratch. If I do, I will start with a Blue Square North/South team, and build all the way up, LLM rules. I loved my Americans, that was the best part, I was able to just screw around in the game and sign as many as I wanted. They weren't even the only one's I targeted. I reached a deal for Altidore, but he didn't win his work permit appeal, which I thought he would for sure. I was in talks with Chris Konopka, who already had an EU passport. Marvell Wynne wanted to sign, but passport, same with Cam Weaver and Michael Bradley.

Why not just move Leicester to Louisville? Is FM good enough to buy, or at least download through illegal means?

So much more fun than I ever had with a FIFA game. Incredible depth. I dl'd my copy, and it didn't have the broken crack either, so it worked perfectly. But at $30, it's not a bad deal either.
