Frank Wash: Quarterback: The Beginning
I come from Homestead, Florida. Life is not exactly easy down in Homestead. We are the deepest south you can get until you hit the Florida Keys. Were not rich but were not poor. We are a little below middle class. Every day at school there are fights, lock downs, and cops at the school. We need police to escort us after school is over to the front door. The school was rated an F and there was no way out unless you chose to do an activity.
When I was becoming a high school Freshman, I signed up for football because it would be the only way out of this town. Our coach was always on us about grades and made us do homework even before we could practice. Some days we had no practice and we spent time doing homework. Our team wasn't so good and I was the backup quarterback on varsity for my Freshman and Sophomore season. We went 4-8 my Freshman year and 6-6 my Sophomore year, I did not even hit the field once in either year. My Junior year however was my time to shine. I played every game and led the team to a much improved 8-4 season and still missed the playoffs. My Senior year, which just ended was by far our best. We went 9-3, won the district championship but lost in the second round of the playoffs.
I was selected to play in the Army all-American bowl in Texas...which was a great experience and an honor. In December of 2006 after our season had ended I had received scholarships from USC, Miami, FSU, Florida, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, West Virgina, and Arkansas. I'm a Gator fan and I bleed Orange and Blue...but I deiced not to go there. I'm trying to fulfill my dreams and make it to the NFL and I know that most of the Gators quarterbacks have been successful in college but have tanked in the NFL. Not only that, but Coach Urban and the rest of Gator Nation are set on Tebow for the next three years and I'm not riding the pine no more.
I chose to go to the University of Nebraska. When I found out that starting quarterback Sam Keller lost his scholarship due to accepting gifts from the alumni, I knew it would be the best move for me. My parents are ok with me leaving the state but they really wanted me to go to Miami, FSU, or Florida.
We've been practicing and our first game is tomorrow versus Nevada at home and I will be starting. I really can't wait for it and might be a little bit too nervous.
I will tell you guys about my game tomorrow night after everything is settled down. Don't forget to check me out on T.V, the game will be aired on ESPN Game Plan at 12:00.
