The Mississippi Legal System blows

So I had to go to court today for getting an MIP about a month ago. Big fun right? I went with my friend who was with me when my other friend got pulled over for running a red light. His charge was possession of drug paraphernalia.

Well I go up and put in my guilty plea. A $619 fine and a day of community service for a freaking minor in possession. My friend who was caught with a roller and a grinder, $219 fine. What the hell is that? Possession of pot is the same as possession of alcohol by a minor. Wonderful stuff really, I love it.

I'm just suggesting that kind of fine on an MIP is ludicrous if drug possession is going to be equal or less than that. I think pot should be legal, but if it's not shouldn't the fine for it be more than a legal substance?

I guess there is some logic to it. Both are illegal to possess if you are under 21 years old. That's still a huge fine for a closed container of scotch. I don't have 600 bucks just laying around for me being an idiot. I probably should, considering I was dumb enough to leave a bottle of scotch in a car, but my stupidity is not what's on trial here.

The worst case I can think of is this kid in high school crashed his car going 150 km/h and killed his two friends in the car with him. He didn't even get his license revoked! The legal system up here is a complete joke and all the criminals/retarded kids know it.

The container is consider closed legally due to the fact the top was on it and it was sitting under a seat. Not an open container violation. The fine for an MIP is the same if you are in a car or not as well. Considering I was sober at the time, as was everyone in the car, it was obvious the liquor was not being consumed that night.

I just want to bitch about having to pay that much money....

I think it's more based on the fact that they probably couldn't easily stop you from getting the marijuana, it's practically legal. But they could have stopped you from getting the booze, and they feel cheated that you had it. So the bummed you, pretty hardcore.

The fee for the MIP is the same across the board, no matter the circumstances surrounding it. The theory is this, there are a lot of rich kids up here. So jack up fines on crimes that pretty much everyone gets caught on at least once and make a ton of money.

Oh and dude, they found marijuana on a friend of mine in the car. I mean technically it was marijuana that was still in his grinder. He got off easier than I did though...which sucks.

Damn it feels good to bitch...even if I'm standing on shakey ground to do it.
