So I was in the music store and came across an autographed copy of an album by this one band my friend and I listen to. He was quick to buy the copy since it was autographed. I just wanted to know what the general fascination with the autograph is? Especially one that you obtain without actually meeting the person(s) who have signed an item?

No idea, the only autographed thing I own is when I won a contest on AbsolutePunk.net and got tickets to Ace Enders/Hang out with him backstage for the rest of the show/Autographed copy of his solo album.... and I have no clue where it is, I don't think I've ever wanted to listen to it either, haha.

I have expressed my views on autographs before on here. I find really stupid especially getting college athletes sigs. I would much rather talk to the said person for a while than get his name scribbled on a hat

I like autographs and such but I don't go crazy over them. I mean i have lots of things autographed and such. I don't know its kinda like the a proof piece that you can show people that either met that person. I don't really like getting things that are pre-autographed. I have a couple things such as old hockey cards that are but the only things auto'd are when I met them in person. I can't wait till the day someone asks me for my autograph, I'll definitely do that.

Does it count if you've met the person before, they just didn't sign said autograph at that time.
The only autographed thing I have is a picture of Kyle Orton at Purdue with my HS logo in the background. Then he signed it and it was available at some auction.

I love collecting autographs....it's a hobby i have adopted. I dont do college players since that feels weird and i only get autographs from players I like such as Gilbert Arenas, Carl Crawford, Joey Galloway, etc. I would like to frame my jerseys I got signed and hang em up. I dont sell none of my autograph merchandise.

Troy Smith Beanie Malcolm Jenkins AJ Hawk Quinn Pitcock Brandon Saine
Among others... I've got Archie Griffin as well. My boy Quinn was hooking me up with some Colts stuff this year but he said he didn't know if he wanted to play anymore...

I got a bunch of college stuff signed. Like I have an authentic UH helmet signed by Chang and a Mini helmet signed by a bunch of players when I saw them play Tulsa and a Football signed by a bunch of players when i saw them v.s Rice 2 years ago. I don't see why its bad to get college player to sign if you like them why not?

It depends on the person and the item(s). I mean, I have 75-80 signed baseballs from various stars but I don't like them because someone scribbled their name, its a cool reminder of my time working for MLB and they hold monetary value.
I also collect hockey cards and, again, aside from the monetary value, I enjoy collecting them of a few players. It's just something fun but 9 out of 10 times, I don't care about the actual signature unless it's just super pretty (like Mariano Rivera's).

I got autographs as a kid, but nowadays I could really care less. If I ever saw like sayyy MJ or Reggie Bush I would never ask for there autograph I would just say hey and be on my way I think its a better feeling to treat them like normal people and talk to them and shit then just get their autographs.
Joey Gathright comes into our car wash and I just talk to him, guys cool as hell. John Bale also came in once same with Michael Allen and third string QB thigpen from the Chiefs.

If you met Michael Jordan, I doubt you'd just be like "Hey man".
You'd freak out and act like your 6. Anyone would.

If I saw these guys on the street, would I ask them for an autograph? No. These guys are people and really don't want to be bothered away from "work".

I think it depends when you meet someone. I've met someone I idolize and I didn't freak out. I tried my best to keep my cool. I think it is more likely that you would be at a loss for words than freaking out though. Unless you consider freaking out speaking no words.

I see Steve Smith and a lot of other Panthers players at my gym all the time.. I don't freak out I just say hey and then I go work out. A few of them will notice my HS football team's logo on a lot of my shirts and come talk to me about it.

I think it is more likely that you would be at a loss for words than freaking out though. Unless you consider freaking out speaking no words. Speaking of this, the Tampa Bucs held their walkthrough on the local air force base here (I went of course since im a military child) and I was at a lost for words when I met Marshall Faulk. I didnt know he would be here but he, Sterling Sharpe, and some other guy did a broadcast for the NFL Network talking about the Bucs preseason game against he Pats tomorrow nite (I got 4 free tickets today as well to go). I'm not a Rams fan but I enjoyed watching Marshall play for em and watchin him on the NFL network. I was stunned when he actually posed for a pic with me and we talked for a bit since most Bucs fans were trying to get autographs from the Bucs players. Great guy I must say. Not to mention pretty funny. I also held a conversation with Dexter Jackson- the Appalachian State wideout. He's very cool as well so we discussed some things ranging from the heat to Appalachian State upseting LSU. He's one of my favorite NFL players now lol.

I see many Dolphins, Heat, and Marlins players. Yesterday, I saw Dan Uggla at the track before the game. The race track and stadium are right next to each other so most of the time the players come over and bet a few races. I used to get stuff signed when I was younger, but after a while I just stopped
