Despite recent criminal charges, many teams still in pursuit of Timberland back
St. Louis, MO - DeShawn Pringle, a highly regarded St. Louis high school football prospect, has been a very popular target by many collegiate football programs despite his arrests in recent months.
Pringle, a senior tailback at Timberland High School, was arrested in late July following allegations that he was involved in a fight outside a pool hall in downtown St. Louis. The complainant, a 36-year old St. Louis woman, reported that Pringle threatened her boyfriend, 22-year old Derrick Newkirk, and then allegedly pulled a 9mm pistol out and aimed it at both of them. Newkirk was not available to comment.
Pringle was once against arrested, this time for possession of marijuana in early September. Pringle plead no contest and was sentenced to 300 hours of community service and 2 years probation.
Despite these charges, Pringle has been heavily recruited by football powerhouses Miami, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Auburn, and USC.
"I don't think I should be discredited because of some trouble I've gotten into it. I'm doing my time and doing what I gotta do, ya dig? I'm cleaning myself up and I don't think I should be punished for that," said Pringle in an interview following Timberland's 34-15 victory over DeSmet Friday night.
Last season, the five foot five inch tailback rushed for 1,825 yards and 19 touchdowns. Through six games this season, Pringle has racked up 842 yards and 8 touchdowns. The Timberland Wolves are 6-0.
Pringle is expected to make his decision by season end but has stated many times over that he is heavily in favor of the University of Miami, citing the greats that have gone through such as Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, and Willis McGahee.
