So i played the gamestop demo with the 5 minute quarters and i must say, i sure as hell cant wait for this game to come out! EA gave Madden a much needed makeover and man oh man does it show. The only thing missing in the demo was commentary but oh well, here's what i liked:
- The game plays much slower than NCAA 10. NCAA 10 is pretty fast paced but Madden just slows everything down. I dont know if you can adjust the game speed but i liked the tempo that was used in the demo.
-Refs are on the field and yes, they get in the way at times. Players dont go through refs like they're ghost so the two become tangled up, you'll see the ref try to jump out the way or the player pushing him to the side. It's a really nice touch.
-Chain gang is in. You dont determine when they should measure the ball- they do it themselves. They have a cutscene where it shows em measuring. If the team gets a right call, the players will pump their fist.
-The crowd sounds amazing. They are LOUD. They dont have any chants aside from the usual DEFENSE one. They make the game feel much more lively.
-If you fumble, a pileup may form. You then have to push buttons rapidly to get the ball back. It's like a quicktime cutscene as the refs are shown trying to separate the pile.
-Uniforms get dirty.
-There are quite a bit of cutscenes in the game. Some show while you are picking a play and some will show after the play ends. If a coach hates a call, the game will show him talking to a ref and you can tell the coach is pissed. There are also cutscenes of QBs talking on those sideline phones with their helmets off.
All in all, i am very impressed with Madden. Looks like EA finally got everything right this year. Only if they could do that with their NCAA football and basketball series
