i think 32 teams is a little too much....realistically, the BCS needs an 8 team playoff. But based off your bracket, my final four has Ohio State vs Georgia Tech and Bama vs TCU. Buckeyes beat Jackets and Horned Frogs beat tide. TCU wins national title

Of course it's too much, but I might as well have fun with it.

For interest - here's what my proposal for a more realistic BCS playoff would look like:

Bama, are you just saying this to be a contrarian? Be honest.

Bama, are you just saying this to be a contrarian? Be honest. He's said it before. I just don't remember his reasoning.

Bama, are you just saying this to be a contrarian? Be honest. BCS does what it's suppose to do, find the two best teams over the course of the season. All a playoff shows is who is hot at the right time. The BCS actually takes into account what the teams have done throughout the course of the season. When has the BCS actually not had the two best teams playing for the title? 2003 I think is the only year where you could have an argument. You can argue 2004 and 2008 but really look at the big picture and you'll realize the two best teams (over the course of the season) made it. The BCS does it's job better than a playoff.

Really, there's only one available BCS spot available nowadays, isn't there?
6 conference champs, SEC runner-up, non-BCS unbeaten, and Notre Dame?
And on a related note, no, I do not think that Texas is the second best team in the nation, but we'll never find out, will we.

Who's better DB? I personally think Florida is, and you know TCU may have an argument. I think those guys, for once in terms of a Non-BCS team, might be the second best team out there. I do think the BCS did it's job this year though, Texas resume (slightly)> TCU resume.

TCU and Florida would beat Texas.
All the BCS does is reward the highest-ranked teams who play cushy non-conference schedules while teams like TCU and Boise can go 12-0 but get left out out of NCG because they play in shitty conferences and can't get anyone to play them out of conference, with a few rare exceptions (need I remind you that Boise beat Oregon?)
The fact that we even have to debate whether Texas is deserving of a championship berth demonstrates that the BCS is a flawed system. In college basketball, nobody ever says the playoff championship didn't deserve to be there, nor are the fates of the would-be championship game participants in the hands of an elite group of pollsters.

Playoffs end bickering and excuses, but doesn't actually deliever the best possible championship. The BCS does a much better job of that. Would you rather a real champion or the team that got hot at the right time.
Exhibit A is the Arizona Cardinals of last year. Exhibit B is the New York Giants of two years ago.
They got hot at the right time, but weren't the best team over the course of the season. I'd rather a season of work determine it instead of going on a great run after an 8-8 season.

Well, isn't a national championship game just who got up on the right side of the bed that day? How can you judge who's the champion there, if one is more prepared than the other? If we follow your line of thinking, shouldn't we get rid of the bowl system altogether, and just let a series of computers and coaches and journalists decide who wins the national title, kinda like the good old days of the 1920's?

You could say the same thing for every game based on your line of thinking. So why should the regular season matter at all then? The goal is to find the teams who did the best throughout the season and let them play. It's an imperfect system, but playing a series of games isn't feasable so this is what we have. In terms of deciding a championship game, the BCS does a much better job then a playoff ever could.

Note: the whatifsports boxscores are archived for a day or two. Enjoy them while you can? Nebraska 37, Iowa 13whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422526Nebraska dominated Iowa as James Vandenberg, in for the injured Ricky Stanzi, was a disastrous 8-33 with 1 touchdown and 5 interceptions. He was also sacked three times, including once by Nebraska's Heisman finalist Ndamukong Suh. Cornhusker running back Roy Helu tore apart the Hawkeye defense, rushing 26 times for 175 yards and 2 touchdowns. Utah 26, Oregon 20whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422580The Pac-10 champs suffered a stunning upset at the hands of the Utes, who held Oregon to just 39 yards passing while posting 388 yards rushing on a helpless Ducks defense. Utah's Eddie Wide ran for 218 of those yards, including what would prove to be the decisive touchdown with 5:58 to go. Cincinnati 35, California 31whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422613California nearly pulled off a mammoth upset against unbeaten Cincinnati, but the Bearcats, sans coach Brian Kelly, held off the Golden Bears in a 35-31 thriller. Tony Pike posted 405 yards passing, enough to overcome Cal's 24 second quarter points. It was the five field goals, however, that proved to be the difference. Wisconsin 30, Virginia Tech 7whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422642Badger runningback John Clay (32 carries, 241 yards, 2 touchdowns) and a stout defense that held Virginia Tech to a single touchdown led Wisconsin to a minor upset of the Hokies. Wisconsin never trailed and the Badgers posted 416 rushing yards in the 30-7 victory. Penn State 34, Central Michigan 20whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422656Penn State shook off an upset-minded Central Michigan team for a 34-20 victory in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. Central was within 21-20 in the 3rd quarter, but the Nittany Lion defense stiffened and shut out the Chippewas the rest of the way, while Penn State added an Evan Royster touchdown and two Collin Wagner field goals. Royster was the star with his 231 yard, 2 touchdown performance. Boise State 48, Oregon State 7whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422671It was no contest for the Broncos, who posted 536 total yards on the helpless Beavers. Oregon State didn't score until the fourth quarter, when they had already fallen behind 41-0. On a team full of standouts, Jeremy Avery was the star for Boise, posting 219 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. QB Kellen Moore was 16-26 for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns. Texas 39, USC 10whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422694Things have changed since these two teams met in that classic National Championship game. Texas won the rematch decisively, 39-10. Cold McCoy was unstoppable, going 23-27 for 240 yards, 2 touchdowns, and a pick. Texas was helped by USC freshman Matt Barkley's 2 interceptions. LSU 41, West Virginia 7whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422729This 4/5 game turned out to be lopsided as the Tigers dominated the Mountaineers. LSU's Chad Jones intercepted West Virginia QB Jarrett Brown three times, while Keiland Williams ran for 2 touchdowns. Alabama 68, Troy 7whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422752The Sun Belt champs were no match for the SEC champs. Greg McElroy threw for three touchdowns and Mark Ingram ran for three more as Alabama obliterated Troy. Miami 37, Pittsburgh 30 (2OT)whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422767The Panthers fell behind 27-14, but fought back to tie it on a Dan Hutchins field goal with 1:24 left in regulation. The teams traded field goals in the first overtime. Pitt had the ball first in the second overtime, but Bill Stull was intercepted, setting up a game-winning touchdown for the Hurricanes. Dion Lewis had 229 rushing yards in a losing effort. Ohio State 66, Houston 10whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422840The Buckeyes blew out the Cougars, as Terrelle Pryor only had to attempt six passes. He also had a rushing touchdown, one of seven on the day, as Ohio State saw four players rush for 80+ yards. Arizona 49, Brigham Young 30whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422895Arizona simply outgunned the BYU Cougars, as Arizona QB Nick Foles went 24-36, 338 yards, and 4 touchdowns. The Cougars defense could not make the key stops, and Arizona pulled the upset. TCU 19, Texas Tech 10whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422932TCU survived a huge test from 8-seeded Texas Tech. The Horned Frogs jumped out to a 16-0 lead, but the Red Raiders stormed back into the game. However, Ross Evans' 33 yard field goal with 41 seconds to go - one of four he made on the day - effectively ended Tech's comeback hopes. TCU's Matthew Tucker rushed for 120 yards and what turned out to be the Horned Frogs' lone touchdown. Stanford 45, Northwestern 31whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1422984Toby Gerhart proved too much for yet another defense, this time that of the Northwestern Wildcats. Gerhart's sparkling 343 yard 3 touchdown performance lifted his Stanford Cardinal to a 45-31 victory over the Wildcats. Northwestern fell behind 17-0 but refused to go away, narrowing the deficit to 17-14, then 24-21, and later 31-24, and finally 38-31 - but they could not stop Gerhart and the Stanford offense, who advance to the second round. Florida 47, Oklahoma State 7whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1423013Tim Tebow and the Gators were on a mission after losing in the SEC Championship, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys proved incapable of stopping them. It was Chris Rainey who was the star for Florida, rushing for 166 yards and 4 touchdowns. Caleb Sturgis added 4 field goals and the Gator defense had all the offensive support they needed and more. East Carolina 56, Georgia Tech 20whatifsports.com/ncaafb/boxscore.asp?GameID=1423074The heavily favored Yellow Jackets found themselves shellshocked as they gave up 42 unanswered points to the East Carolina Pirates in the second half of their first round matchup. After falling behind 20-14, the Pirates reeled off six consecutive touchdowns, four of them scored by runningback Dominique Lindsay, as a tight battle at the half turned into an ECU blowout. Round 2 comes next Saturday. Discuss.
