Coaches Comments: Willie Lucas was the top rated recruit in the nation when he committed to Penn State. Nebraska made a late push for him, but he decided Linebacker U was the place for him. Over his illustrious career, he etched his name as the top product to come through Linebacker U. The main thing that I noticed when he came to Penn State was his speed. He had great closing speed, and was quick to plug a hole. One of his most memorable moments was chasing down a 99 SPD receiver to within inches of tackling him [albeit he scored]. Lucas broke out in his sophomore season as he led the team with 11 sacks and 88 tackles. By this time he was 88 OVR and improving quickly as a pass defending linebacker as well. His junior year was one of the greatest of all time as he nearly racked up 100 tackles and 13 sacks. He finished second in the Bednarik Trophy voting. He decided to stay at Penn State for one more season and recorded career highs in interceptions. The guy was a beast all throughout his career at Penn State and was never a problem during practice. He may have not won any of the major trophies that define great players, but his performance spoke for himself during his four years with the Nittany Lions.
Voting will end on February 19th, 2007. The player must have 75% of the vote in order to be inducted.
