they have the best qb in the sec, a group of young, yet talented wr's to throw to... the running back duo is great and the o-line is in the top 5 in the sec. the coaching staff is one of the best in the country as well. the defense is one of the fastest, despite being undersized.

I don't even see Tennessee finishing in the Top 3 in their own division.

I don't really care what you have to say... I asked if you would reveal these "places" where you see them top 5... I was wondering if you were BSing to make a point, or if there was actually some person with someone respectable knowledge of college football that says that...

or if there was actually some person with someone respectable knowledge of college football that says that... How many preseason polls have you seen by "a person with somewhat respectable knowledge of college football". My guess is probably none so far this year because none are out yet. We'll see when some more preseason polls come out, where they are. I sure as hell know it wont be no number 20. I've seen them in the top 5 once, top 10 another time but not by any of your person with somewhat respectable knowledge of college football because those polls are not out yet.

Auburn will have a rebuilding year. They lost their star tailback, star wideout (Taylor was the only one worht a damn), four offensive linemen, and guys like David Irons on defense. Auburn has a lot of new guys to get in and mesh and they won't have a ton of time to do that in the SEC. They will, close strong though, but not before collecting some losses against Florida, LSU, Georgia, and one upset somewhere along the line.
Tennessee will have to get some new receivers into the fire and are still having problems getting the running game going over the past few years. On defense they also lost quite a bit, which is always the strength of the Vols D. They have some talent on defense, but it is not a dominating bunch. I think Tennessee can be much better than 20th if they can get back to Tennessee football with the running game (as the Athlon article stated, 96th in Div 1-A). That is still a question mark, even wth Coker in the backfield.
The other SEC teams in the Top 25 ought to be Georgia, LSU, and Florida. Arkansas might slip in there with DMac still there, but Houston Nutt is riding a sinking ship. I would be amazed if they make anything above the Indy Bowl this season.

I don't even see Tennessee finishing in the Top 3 in their own division. That simply shows the depth of the SEC, they are clearly deserving of a top 25 preseason selection.

Is it reasonable to say that the SEC is down a bit, but still yet the best conference in the nation? Because that's how I look at it.

I wouldn't put much stock into these polls this early in the season. However, I think you'll see teams like Tennessee and Oregon State rise in the polls, where as others such as Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Hawai'i will slip. Not sure how far, but each might slip 1-2 spots. Same for the other two I mentioned, except 1-2 spots in the other direction.
