Another example why the NCAA is a joke.

well the way the NCAA is going, they should take away USC's 2004 National Title. and If they Don't I feel the NCAA is a total joke The NCAA is the biggest joke in all of sports. The name Albert Means brought me to this assertion years ago. He was a Memphis area HS star in the late 90s and schools got into a bidding war for him. Alabama ended up winning that bidding war (ok, that was against the rules I know). At this same time, the University of Tennessee (who also was throwing money at Means) was in some hot water over Tee Martin. So Phil Fulmer saw a chance to save his ass and was a "secret witness" against Alabama in the hearings that got Bama the sanctions that have crippled our program for the last six years. So basically, the NCAA slammed Alabama. It was a booster independent of the University that pulled this shit off, but the Alabama football program was trashed. At the same time, Tennessee got nothing! This isn't a DA making a plea bargain to get a murder in jail, this was the NCAA letting a cheater off the hook to turn in someone for doing the exact same thing. Then of course we can note the NCAA not really seeming to bother with the USC situation, but giving Oklahoma this after they reacted in a quick and legitimate manor. The NCAA sucks...and nothing is going to change.

The NCAA sucks...and nothing is going to change. Eh, I tend to disagree with this statement. Oklahoma's getting off pretty easy with this one. The two players were grossly overpaid for their time worked. It wasn't that it was a few dollars here and there, it was well over what the usual wage was. Maybe it was the fact they self-reported it, but OU by losing four scholarships over the next two seasons, got a slap on the wrist. The NCAA could have done more, should have done more.

I question how much Oklahoma knew. Do we actually know when they found out about it or not? The dealership was owned by a booster correct? It seems niave, but I could see Oklahoma not knowing about it until they had to react.
You might now something more than I on this, I'm just going on what I remember from a few months ago.
*Edit: Eh...probably did go overboard with OU getting off with a harsh penalty. Still...I wouldn't have been upset with OU getting less.

It could have been a booster, but the details I remember are a bit fuzzy, especially at this time of night. It just goes to show that the NCAA favors the big name programs for the most part. It actually invokes memories of the NCAA coming down hard on Mizzou for Quin Snyder and his BB staff giving former player Ricky Clemons a few T-shirts and a pair of flip-flops, while kU gets slapped with the dreaded "lack of institutional control" tag, yet nothing comes to fruition from that.
Maddening.

My question is when you do something while on probation... isn't that it? Instead, probation is extended? Is that how it works in the real world?

I'm just glad Myles Brand is busy ruining the NCAA instead of Indiana University. We still haven't recovered from him.

Still...I wouldn't have been upset with OU getting less. The Dealership was Called Big Red and Imports. The name pretty much gives away that they were probably a booster, but I always remember seeing former Oklahoma Quaterback Jack Mildren in their commericals. I think we also got this because we were already on probation because of what Sampson did before he left.
