They beat an overrated Virginia Tech team (that even I overestimated before the season) who struggled against ECU last week. I wouldn't say that classifies you as the best in the nation. You're definitely 1 of the top 3 right now though. Any team is going to have trouble with them LSU Tigers.

And LSU absolutely destroyed them. I cant see anyone but the Tigers winning the title this year.

I didn't watch the game but two games against a garbage team and a good but overrated team with seemingly an entire offense missing doesn't say "best team in the nation to me". I'm not gonna say who is because I don't think it's fair to see two weeks in with no real big games played yet. They only scored 17 on ECU, did you really expect much more production against a very strong LSU defense?
LSU, USC, and Oklahoma are teams that I think this season is going to come down to with someone like a Penn State, Wisconsin, or Rutgers trying to punch their way into some MNC talks as well.

Ole Miss sucks and Chase Daniel is amazing. He made some fantastic throws, watched the second touchdown develope and Chase made a perfect throw. Mizzou needs a better defense though, Ole Miss had no business getting 500+ yards on em. Defense won't ever be a priority under Pinkel. I don't care if we give up a ton of yards, all we have to do is score 30-35+ and our defense has actually played well contrary to the stats. I would say the numbers are inflated because OM was playing catch-up all game. The rush yards against us is concerning, but I've heard all week that Green-Ellis is a good RB and the OM OL isn't too shabby, either. Wasn't able to watch the game on TV, so I don't know for sure.

I have to agree with jeff this year, no one jumps out at me that can beat these guys. They have it all, best defense in the nation hands down, and an above average offense that even if they score 17 PPG they could win out. LSU's defense compares to the Hurricanes 2001 team i believe it was. A team just loaded with talent and speed. I just don't see anyone beating them.

Thats great Jeff, but I can pull a similar source saying Ohio State is the best team in the nation in the past four-to-five years.
But there is no doubt in my mind that USC has been the best team in the nation throughout this century.

Ole Miss actually racked up the majority of their rushing yards in the second half. Early on Mizzou was stuffing our offense, everything finally got clicking right before halftime. Of course, we had already spotted y'all 21 points by then. Green-Ellis is a good running back, but really he got those yards by just pounding it up the middle. He only had one big run all game if I remember correctly.
Edit: Jeff, LSU hasn't been the best team in the nation over the past four or five years. 2 BCS bowls, 1 SEC title (marking the period from 2002-2007, it's 2 if you go back to 2000), and 1 MNC isn't that amazing. USC, who has been to 5 BCS bolws, 5 Pac 10 Crowns (not the SEC, but not too shabby), and 1 BCS Championship w/ 1 AP Championship (I assume Jeff you won't count this one, so we'll even it out at 1). USC is still more impressive and might actually have more talent this year than LSU. That being said, LSU looks poised to up those SEC and MNC numbers this year.

Wow...four-to-five years with ONE national championship = best team in nation for past four-to-five years?
Guess what Jeff? You were wrong and EVERYONE's going to tell you so and two already have. I wouldn't necessarily say you're great "source" helped you any either.

I wouldn't necessarily say you're great "source" helped you any either. Realize that using MNCs are not the best way to tell. They're have been five different BCS champs over the past five years. Starting from 2002: Ohio State, LSU, USC, Texas, and Florida. I like to look at things like BCS bowls, Conference Titles, and top 10 finishes to decide this kind of thing. That is where LSU loses out. Since 2002 the SEC champions have been: Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida. Georgia has more SEC titles than LSU in that time frame. You can't be the best team in the nation for five years without being the best team in your conference in that time frame. Looking at BCS bowls, LSU and Georgia have been to two Sugar Bowls (LSU's 1st was the MNC game). That is good, but still leaves LSU on equal footing with UGA. LSU is also 2-2 head to head against the Dawgs since 2002 I think, with both wins coming in 2003. It's close, but the extra SEC title I think gives UGA the edge over the past five years. So yeah...LSU still isn't the best program in the SEC, much less the nation.

I understand that but I was also thinking USC's other national championship, whether he believes it counts or not and the fact that USC has been in three national championships in the past five years and were even considered national champs in 2002 but by very unimportant media outlets who seem to have some say in 1-A champions (http://www.ncaa.org/champadmin/ia_football_past_champs.html). I didn't wanna reiterate what you had said so I just kinda mocked Jeff after he said just yesterday that he's never been wrong. He gets so overly pissed off so I couldn't resist.

Fair enough, just hopefully this won't spark too many fireworks. Oh and I love to see people mocked. It makes me happy for some reason.
Carry on fellas.
