Exactly dude. The SEC's move to undersized DEs and LBs is a symptom of Steve Spurrier's Gator teams. At least that is my perception. I think Ron Zook is going to end up causing the same thing. It's not that Illinois was all that good, but the perception is that Zook has something building up in Champaigne. That helps him recruit, and he is a great recruiter that is pulling in the right kind of athletes right now. I'm at a point where I think what I'm going to call the "Zook effect" is going to change the face of Big Ten football. Maybe Zook falls flat on his face after this year, because honestly he's not the greatest gameday coach to ever walk the sidelines. The thing is, teams are starting to change their styles in the Big Ten already. Ohio State ran some spread looks last year with Troy Smith. Michigan is moving to the spread option. I'm mostly talking out my ass, but it's something to at least keep an eye on.

lol @ sportsbuck getting mad at spartan taking shots at him when he takes shots at every little thing Michigan does 24/7. Edit: Though you did compliment the academic standards of Michigan. yay lol but it all doesn't matter. WE'RE AREN'T PLAYING THE 1800's STYLE OF FOOTBALL ANYMORE.

It's okay bama. Terrell Pryor will fix everything. He is a lock. He added Michigan now that RR is the coach. By the way, Michigan was the lifelong team that he followed. Lost in all the Ohio State talk was earlier in the year when he said he liked Michigan, but they weren't actively recruiting him. I STILL think he's going to Ohio State, but it's gonna be fun being in the race for him.

The dead period starts tommorrow, meaning that there is no communication from coaches to prospective recruits. Recruits can still talk to each other, and I honestly have more faith in our commits (The Brew Crew) talking to Pryor than anybody else. Not to mention that Michael Brewster (Best 18 year old recruiter in the country) is rooming with Pryor at the AA game.

Well Pat White and Steve Slaton will declare for the draft within the next week. The loss of Rodriguez is a big blow to WVU because he wanted to build that program, add new facilities, and just simply improve his alma matter. It'll be interesting to see who replaces him. pat white to the NFL? not unless he wants to play WR and with the RR thing, just cause they ran the ball alot at WVU doesn't mean he'll do the same at UM. At his Div-1AA (or whatever) HC gib his team passed 50 times a game and then as Tulane OC in the late 90s he led the Green Wave to an undefeated season with the NCAA passing leader Shaun King at QB. So with a guy like Mallett at QB (as longas he doesn't transfer) I can foresee them going back to his passing attack offense.

There's just something I don't like about the Zooker. I think it's that half-ass smirk he always seems to have on his face. But the man - so far - is doing a pretty good job. The reason he's making such a killing in recruiting to this point is the fact, like Bama said, he's pitching a "resurgence" of sorts, and the fact they're in the Rose Bowl (which I think is a crock, but that's beside the point). As much as I hate to say it, Illinois is going to be a pain in the arse for OSU, UM, and PSU over the next few seasons as he builds his team.
But if he can't win the Big 10+1 with the talent he's bringing in over that time frame, I don't think he can ever do it.

The biggest thing for UM is getting into the Ohio talent base. When UM is successful, a large amount of their players come from Ohio, and they used to get top players from the state all the time. That has changed with Tressel's arrival and they are forced to go elsewhere for talent. Hell, the only 2 commits from Ohio for UM are two tight ends, and do they even use tight ends in the spread?

I would argue in today's college football world, what states you hit up are of minor concern. A few schools keep their states top talent on lockdown (Ohio State and LSU come to mind the most) and they are successful. A program like Michigan can recruit nationally. Plus Rod is looking for a certain kind of player to play in his system. Which narrows down the field but also means he doesn't have to fight Ohio State, Penn State, and others for the same type of player. He wants quick o-linemn, speedy scat backs, and a fast QB. His natural rivals up there are still looking for big powerful backs and dominating run blocking offensive linemen. I don't think the Ohio base is going to matter, because he will go after different players than OSU will want.

Well then he better start scouting the south because we all know no one with speed comes from up north.

Ron Zook is a great recruiter and a horrible coach. That is all I have to say about this thread.

Well then he better start scouting the south because we all know no one with speed comes from up north. At WVU where absolutely nobody wants to go, he had to recruit the "leftovers" in Michigan and Pennslyvania. He also tried going into the South to get speed that was needed for his spread option attack. Pat White, Noel Devine, Tito Gonzales, Jarrett Brown, Darius Reynaud, and a few others all came from Louisiana, Alabama, Florida and the other southern states. Hell, if you add North Carolina and Virginia to the South then he also got Owen Schmitt and Dorrell Jalloh from the South. He's been working to establish a pipeline in Florida, Pennslyvania, and to a lesser extent, Ohio. (Getting the prospects Michigan and Ohio State didn't want.)

Rumor has it Rodriguez took the UM job because he was not welcome back at WVU after not telling the AD and all that good stuff and there was a lot of damage done last year from the Bama job.
Interesting.

Strange considering RichRod asked for some concessions, like that new academic facility that was built on campus. It's kinda a slap in the face if you ask me.
Even stranger is that fact that WVU was his alma mater.

We might see some big changes with buyout clauses after this.
Clauses might get a lot bigger and it might be a lot harder for coaches to leave after they agree to big contracts.
