Good. Rodriguez will make Michigan into a softer team that will get pushed around, and into one that lacks the mental toughness necessary to win big games.

yeah but don't you remember the last time you went up against a spread option type offense? I can't seem to remember when that was.

I don't know why, but this guy seems like a parellel of Callahan's hiring at Nebraska.
Gimmick offense + sieve like defense & soft players + traditional football power = potential disaster

Whats it matter? OSU, UM, PSU? Still gonna be facing your Spartans every year and most likely dominating you.

Gimmick offense + sieve like defense & soft players + traditional football power = potential disaster The spread option is not really a "gimmick" anymore. Look at all the schools running it now. Oh and Sportsbuck, what's the only team you faced this year with the personel to run a spread option. The answer to that question is Illinois and what exactly happened in that game? Let's go back to last season, and one of the greatest Buckeye teams of all time. What exactly did Florida's spread do to the Buckeyes? I don't remember the exact score, but I'm sure you remember it was a thrashing. RR is a good hire for Michigan. Much better choice than Les Miles would have been (I have to get digs in on Miles whenever I can). I personally feel that Michigan will be a top 10 program year in and year out when Rod finally gets his players in there and what not. UM will have to be patient, because there are going to be some rough years in there before things get going.

The answer to that question is Illinois and what exactly happened in that game? Well, as far as I know, we held the Big Ten's rushing leader to a paltry 3.4 yards per carry and held him to just 88 yards on 26 carries. Juice Williams played the game of his life and it still took a terrible call on a fumble to give them the 7 point difference. That's not to say that they didn't deserve to win, which they did because we played like shit. I'm not even touching the Florida game, I've debated that so many times over the past year that I'm finally done debating it.

Come talk to me when your team makes a January bowl game. You cut me right to the bone on that one. Quit being an arrogant prick. Your the one trying to cut me down. I am being an arrogant prick about this but you are the one that started taking shots at me. What's to debate? Okay, check his stats in games against OSU. Then check his stats in the game post-OSU. Then I'd advise you to search "Fumble- Illinos and Ohio State" on google and read up on that. There was a clear fumble that we recovered in the endzone, but it wasn't even reviewed because Illinois went up to the LOS so fast that they couldn't. Take that away, and we're up 7-0, have the ball, and all of the momentum. And there is plenty much to debate. There were a lot of factors in our loss to Florida, the spread option being the least of it.

I'm just suggesting that it is going to be a hell of a transition for a lot of teams in the Big Ten to deal with speed based offenses.
I'm going to address this "SEC Speed" thing here. The thing that gets people talking about it is the speed and athletes SEC teams are putting on defense. Around the country, the skill position guys are all fast. Ohio State and Michigan's skill guys are just as fast as LSUs or Florida's. The main difference IMO, is with linebackers and DEs. The SEC generally features smaller quicker DEs. The linebackers are the same way, more speed based then your tradtional LBers. That is the difference.
I need to talk about this, because of what Zook is doing over in Illinois. He is going to force the Big Ten to start playing a more "SEC" style defense. He's pulling speed in on both sides of the ball in a conference that is still dominated by "old school" football (at least that is my perception). The same thing is going to happen at Michigan, except since Michigan is Michigan, they are going to be loaded with speed guys in a few years. This is going to cause a transition in the conference in how they play defense and the type of guys they recruit to play defense. It's a good thing for the Big Ten and I think it will eventually make the Big Ten one of the top 2 or 3 conferences year in and year old. I can't wait to see Michigan and Ohio State in a few years, going to feature tons of talent and a couple of fun offenses and defenses. It's a good thing.
Sportsbuck, you're probably going to disagree with me about the SEC speed thing. This just means that you are wrong. If so, don't bother posting anything to defend it, because you are still going to be wrong. It's ok.

Not going to disagree at all with the SEC being faster, just disagreeing with the perception by the national media and the public of the entire Big Ten being made up of slower, plodding players.
In the SEC, a lot of DE's and LB's are undersized because of the SEC offenses running the spread, and you need more speed to deal with it. In the Big Ten, you need big, strong LB's and DE's to combat the power running game. It's just a clash of philosophy when these two meet and Speed kills. (Which I just pretty much repeated what you said)
And about Zook. He took a huge advantage of taking the Big Ten by storm in a year where the traditional powers sans-OSU (Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, Penn State) were in a rut and didn't have very good teams in terms of years past. I would've loved to see how his team fares if the Big Ten wasn't so down this year. No doubt is he recruiting talent and amazing me with the fact that he actually does know how to coach, but the whole Big Ten being way down in comparison to years past is a huge thing.
Sidenote: If RRod did indeed call Pryor this morning, than he violated NCAA rules. This is a quiet period in NCAA recruiting, and he is not allowed of that.
Not to mention that his days of recruiting troubled players is over. The Michigan compliance department (Not to mention UM's standing as one of the best academic institutions in the midwest will prevent him from being able to bring in players like Noel Devine.

Well Pat White and Steve Slaton will declare for the draft within the next week. The loss of Rodriguez is a big blow to WVU because he wanted to build that program, add new facilities, and just simply improve his alma matter. It'll be interesting to see who replaces him.
