I'm also looking in to getting ESPN, even though I have March Madness. I just get bored with playing MM, so I figure another game may be better.
Anyway, I had last years game College Basketball 2k3 and legacy mode worked something like this. You got to choose between a few pitiful programs and you had to build them up. You would get contract offers and stuff as you got better and got better recruits and so on; alot like you do with NCAA 2004. I know that this year's game is much deeper, with assistant coaches and everything. I have also heard that recruiting is better here than in March Madness. From what I have heard, it is extremly deep.
So does that help you out, or would it be better for someone with ESPN College Hoops to explain it to you?

Well there are 2 types of legacy modes. He explained career but there is also open. Open is where you can pick any team you want.

The franchise mode is definetly awesome. Like said above, you have the two options for starting it. You can recruit all season long. The recruiting is my favorite out of any college games I've played. I wish NCAA had something like it.
