in this years college bball season when it hits tournament time teams will not be able to use their indian related school names. Like the Florida State Seminoles will just be Florida State. They also cant have any logo's or anything of the school representing an indian. I think this is totally outrageous and pointless the like real seminole Indians are mad about it because they like being represented and all by a school. Anyways whats your guys's take on this stupid ruling.
I mean what are they gonna do next say that the Missouri Tigers are discriminating against animals or something lol.

I think it is a load of crap, I mean it isn't like the names are derogatory (sp?). The only name that is that is the Redskins, but you dont see the NFL forcing Washington to change its name.

Right, we're talking about the people who have gotten rich through gamblers. Like having an athletic program named after them indirectly really tarnishes their good name.

I don't see what the problem is really... |2uff

I wish Myles Brand would die a slow, painful death. I was overjoyed when he left IU, until I realized I would still have to deal with his absolute stupidity.

It's hard to say that the names aren't derogatory if you're not Native American yourself. I'm not, but I can see how some Native Americans might feel that some names might be demeaning.
In college most of the offensive names have been changed (St. John's changed from "Redskins" to "Red Storm", and Miami (OH) changed from "Redskins" to "Red Hawks"), but I don't think it's the names in college that are the issue anymore as much as it's the mascots. Yeah, the FSU Seminoles isn't really offensive, but the way their "mascot" (a white kid in warpaint and head dress) storms onto the field before the game with a flaming spear and spiking it into the logo at the 50 yard line at football games might be considered a little offensive.
I don't blame the NCAA for banning the mascots, since this has been an ongoing issue since like the 80's...but the problem I have with it is that it's only for the postseason games. If you're going to make such a big change, why not make it for regular season, too? I realize that they're hoping that the problem will solve itself since it'd just cost schools more money to buy alternate uniforms or alternate logos, but there is too much tradition at schools like Illinois.
