Andy Katz reported on ESPN that Steve Alford has been in contact with Missouri and will interview for their open coaching position, after being told by IU that they are not interested and he is not a top candidate for the position. A relief for me, for sure. I wanna see Billy Gillispie in Bloomington, personally.

Hes crazy. Leaving Iowa to go to Indiana, i can see that, that is an upgrade. But Iowa to Missouri, thats retarded.

Why? Iowa fans don't want him there. He's losing so many seniors this year that next year is going to be a very, very down year for Iowa. And the interest he's shown in the Indiana job has pretty much burned any bridges he would have had left with those Hawkeye fans who still supported him. I think it's a good move on his part.

Texas A&M would be wise to hang on to Gillespie, honestly. Giving him up would be a mistake, but I digress...Indiana should get an IU guy...someone the fans and aliumni will want.
I personally wouldn't mind Alford coming to Missouri, he has a good basketball mind and recruits well (you have to in a state like Iowa), but it's just something about him I don't like. Maybe it's because he coached at Iowa, a school I don't particularly like. I've heard him, Bob Huggins, and I did hear about McDermott until he signed with ISU.
Mike Davis would be a nice option, then we could possibiy get Vaden and D.J. White in a nice little "package deal" possibly. We would have to wait a year for them, but hey, the Tigers aren't supposed to make any noise until the 07-08 season anyways.

Don't count on Vaden and DJ White transferring. I think they're starting to realize that it would not be in their best interests, and both have back-tracked on previous statements by saying they will hold off and discuss it with their families and the new coach.
As for Gillispie... I don't think it's a matter of Texas A&M holding onto him. If he wants Indiana, he'll come. Money won't be an issue. IU has a lot of financially prominent backers (John Cougar Mellencamp, Bill Cook, Mark Cuban, and the Simon Brothers--owners of the Pacers and of Simon Malls). If IU wants Billy and Billy wants IU, it will happen. Not to mention, he was an assistant to Bill Self at Illinois, I believe, so he has Big Ten ties.
As for getting an IU guy... there are only two options, and I feel both would be a mistake. With Steve Alford, he would probably become bigger than Rick Greenspan, which would be a horrible situation for an AD, to be held captive by your basketball coach. Randy Wittman is an attractive choice, but he just doesn't have any experience in the college game, and I'm not willing to put a prominent program in inexperienced hands. The last time we did that... well, you know the story. It's not about getting an IU guy; it's about getting the right guy. If we do that and he produces, that will unite the fans.

Billy holds his Texas roots strongly... I haven't heard a single thing of him leaving yet, but what he's done at tamu is impossible to deny

Greenspan has two top candidates for the job, both of whom I'm positive want the job as well. I don't think Gillispie is one of those guys, he's just my personal choice for the job.

Just a... well, rumor, of sorts, but I saw on local news moments ago that IU is currently in negotiations with Mark Few to become the next head coach at Indiana.

I was very happy to burst the bubble of some Iowa fans I met last night in Indianapolis by letting them know Alford wouldn't be going anywhere--or at least, he wouldn't be hired away by anyone--and that Missouri had already tabbed Anderson.
But along those lines... bearcat, what's up in Missouri? They were saying on CBS that the AD was fired but that the contract would be honored?

It's a mess. They had a closed session of the Board of Governors (without AD Mike Alden) and apparently discussed his future. There was enough support, but the matter never came to a vote. Then came the actual hiring of Anderson...I honestly don't think that hiring a slam-dunk guy like Anderson is going to help Alden at all. He has a lame-duck football coach, and totally went about getting rid of Quin Snyder the wrong way. Yes, Snyder should have been let go, but Alden didn't have the balls to tell him himself. Sad story, actually.
