Well I can't really be anti-MS because they are the people that are sending my dad the Longhorn beta to test and find security issues with. They also sent him a crapload of software and are flying him up to Seattle later this year to do some stuff with them. Really, Mircosoft is cool with me. I just have heard from many good sources that firefox doesn't have as many security holes, at least not ones being exploited like IE. The popup blocker is cool, but not having a virus attack and the tabbed browser is cool. That's the reason I use Firefox more-so than IE. agreeing with bama on this and I also like the THEMES you can download for Firefox |2uff

I think the big issue with secruity is the fact that MS integrated IE with the operating system, making it easier for bad people to do bad things to your entire machine. There may be holes in Firefox, but it would be tougher for somebody to run amuck all over your machine. Plus, Firefox conforms to the agreed upon web standards set by the W3C (MS thinks they can ignore them...since so many people use IE they want to make their own standards). So, if your pages aren't displaying correctly in Firefox, you're probably not following these standards. Plus, there are a ton of extensions you can use with FireFox to make it do all sorts of things. Here are some. Also, I don't think IE works on anything but Windows. And even though Firefox comes with a Google search box, you can still download the Google-created Google Toolbar for Firefox here.

I'm with Stephen. My brother put Firefox on the computer, but I'm satisfied with IE and a Google toolbar. He says Firefox does better against viruses, so I guess eventually I'll switch over.

Firefox is much safer which is why I use it. It is not directly linked to my hard drive and every single file I have on my computer. Much less spyware as well as viruses. Plus if I really decide to hate Firefox, I can always uninstall it. Try doing that with IE and you'll be paying a guy a few hundred dollars to fix your computer.

Firefox hands down. You can customize it so much with extensions and add-ons. It's nuts.

There may be holes in Firefox, but it would be tougher for somebody to run amuck all over your machine. Well, that may be true, but I tend to think that the major reason IE has so many security flaws is because MS is the #1 target of hackers. I'm not saying IE doesn't have its flaws, as well as MS, but I bet these same hackers could find tons of Firefox security holes if they directed their attention to it the way they do MS. You are dead on here-and I'm feeling the pain in developing the re-design because of it. I've been a big proponent of using the correct CSS/HTML compliant standards for a while. But, for whatever reason, I didn't follow that practice when designing DC the first time, or in my initial attempts at the redesign. Right now, the redesign works in IE fine, but not in Firefox. Part of this is because of the crap IE lets you get away with, especially with CSS positioning. That seems to be the main issues I'm having with it now. But I'm fixing it, and I think the result will definitely be a more web standards-compliant DC. I'll take your word on this one.

I'll be honest, that's the exact reason that IE is so open. Really it's more that most of the more seasoned computer users are protected better and they also use firefox and others at a much greater clip than the average guy who doesn't know that spyware exists. The hackers could attack firefox if they wanted to, but if you can get the computer stupid people who won't know how to get stuff off their system, why not go for them? For right now though, Firefox is still safer and I like it best. So until it becomes the browser the virus and spyware people target Firefox, I'll be running it. One other note, the next version of IE will have tabbed browsing and actually if you get the MSN toolbar you can have it now.
