I'm sorry. During the regular season, I kept my mouth shut, but after a 12 point meltdown today against Wisconsin, I am officially blaming the officials.
Say what you want about me and how I'm a sore loser, it's a message board. But I am sick of watching my team get screwed over and over when going on the road. Say I'm just being a homer, fine. But you would be in the exact same feeling.
Am I saying they are entirely responsible? No. I'm going be real. MSU has a turnover issue. But when 4 MSU players foul out and Wisconsin has no player hit 4 fouls? Come on. Today's game....
MSU FT- 19
UW FT- 37
MSU fouls- 30
UW fouls- 18
We even used more players! How is there fouling more balanced than ours?! Shit, half the time MSU got called for a foul, it was on a stupid dribble penetration early in the game. Krabbanhoft of Wisconsin did the exact same thing on Kalin Lucas at the end, but there was no call and it cost MSU the game. Normally I would blame turnovers, but not today. Not when we had a season low of them. Today, it was on the refs.
I've looked back at every single MSU loss. In all 7 losses in the Big Ten, the free throw and personal fouls difference is absolutely ridiculous.
MSU Fouls- 150
Opponent Fouls- 98
+/-= 52
MSU Free Throws- 89
Opponent Free Throws- 176
+/-=87
It's not easy to win when other teams have an opportunity to score 87 more points than you this season. Hell, I know they aren't responsible for every loss, but today, they sure as hell were. There were jump balls called a foul, and there was inconsistency from all different places.
I would normally blame my players for turnovers. I really would. It's a damn problem. But not today. I watched a piss poor job of officiating and it cost my team a Big Ten tourney title.
When MSU plays in the tournament, I will examine exactly how many free throws each team attempted and see how many fouls were called. Unless it's a sloppy game by Michigan State, I guarantee there is not a significant difference. But I have never seen one team, IN A TIGHTLY CALLED GAME, have 4 players foul out, while the other team fails to have any player reach 4 fouls.
The Big Ten referee's are an absolute joke.
