I have tried to make a banner using photshop for a long time now. But all I can make is basically what a 4th grader can draw in art class.
Could someone walk me through some steps to creating a banner. I can't even figure out how to put pictures in it.

I don't know about Photoshop, but with Fireworks here is are the steps I take.
1. Concentrate on getting a good background. Whether is be simple or complex, this is an important feature.
2. With the pics, all you do is find one on the internet and just simple hit copy, then paste it. Now the long process of the cutout begins. Use the eraser and start going around the edge of the player, and then it will have him and your background.
3. If you know about the opacity stuff, you may want to lower it a bit to make the pic blend with the background a little bit.
Just let me know if you need anymore help. It's going to be hard at first but you will get the hang of it.

Use the lasso tool when making the first cuts, it is much easier. Use the eraser to touch it up. I don't know what the name for the lasso tool is in photoshop though.

I make my backgrounds a lot of the times, but if I'm lazy I'll just search like "cool green background" on google and then copy and paste and resize...
