40 people voted, and 80% of them say that Drew Brees is the biggest suprise? why?
If you watched college football, Know football, seen a good QB in the football you've seen, and watch Drew Brees play you would know that with a supporting case, he's got Joe Montana writen across his right arm.
Sorry j/ had to voice my opinion. It shouldn't be that suprising that he plays so well. He has Receivers. Antonio Gates never played Football since h/s and he's killing folks.

Lets not forget Curtis Martin who is easily on pace to have his best season of his career at age 31!
Also, rookie Ben Roethlisberger who has won his 10th straight start and is undefeated as a starter. Although I tend to believe this isnt because of him, y he's doing good, but the Steelers running game and defense is why their 11-1.
Key stat for Big Ben, he hasnt thrown more than 25 attempts in nine straight starts... Thats for all of you that think Ben is a god or something or "Dan Marino"

Lets not forget Curtis Martin who is easily on pace to have his best season of his career at age 31! While i think C-Mart is the main reason my Jets are 9-3, and hes on pace the best season of his great career, hes probably not the most suprising player of the season. I mean he has gotten 1000 yards every year of his career. Yes, some people thought he would get worse now that hes getting older obviously, but he has proven he still has the ability to be great. Last year he 1300 yards with a bad ankle. Martin is on pace for 1740 yards (career high is 1513), but hes also on pace for another career high of 376 carries. Meanwhile, Antonio Gates his on pace for 1105 yards and 15 touchdowns. Before this season i had never heard of Antonio Gates and he has become the top reciever on a 9-3 team, and hes doing it as a tight end. By no means am i diminishing Curtis Martin, my favorite player in the league, i mean you can give me any running back in the league and i can tell you why curtis martin is better than them. i'm just explaining how someone else should be called the leagues most suprising player. I think this is my longest post ever.

Yeah, Antonio Gates has been very surprising as well, this is a guy that played basketball. No one heard of him, he's only in his 2nd year and now he could finish with over 1000 yards and double digits in TDs. This ha definetely been a year full of surprising players.

My reasoning for Drew Brees being the most surprising player is simple - he wasn't supposed to be still playing by now.
Coming into this season, the Chargers intent was to let Brees start to merely keep the seat warm for Phillip Rivers. The first time Brees would screw up, they'd pull him in favor of Rivers. The thing is, Brees never did. Considering how atrocious the guy was last year, this year is a major shock, no matter if you saw him in college or not. The fact that he's only in the single digits in interceptions is amazing, as well as the fact that he's a major reason why they're on pace to win the AFC West..

Think of that statement..... a TE who never played football since h/s and played basketball for 4 years.... 1,000 yards. Not even the best TE's who've played for 20 years from lil league to now can do that.

Isnt a true I believe that Shannon Sharpe and Tony Gonzalez are the two only TE's with a 1000+ yard season in the past decade. You know those guys are alright. (sarcasm)
