I saw this thread in NCAA Football so I thought we would do it here also. I like to run a 4-3 but if I have athletic linebackers that can move down and play defensive end I will play 3-4. What do you like to play?

I like to control a 3-4 a lot better, its much better having the linebackers blitz, and they get more tackles, but normally the defenses I control are 4-3, and I don't really think you can have 3-4 formations, when you have a 4-3 playbook selected can you? I remember trying to mix things up but it wouldn't let me.

I think it is interesting to see what people who play madden think. Some of them have teams that run 4-3 and won't change because they don't want to get the correct personel.

Well actually, I run a 4-3 in Madden. The 3-4 playbook just doesn't feel right to me, and really IMO even with the big men up front you don't get a realistic push. That means you have to blitz more linebackers to even have a shot at stopping a run and then you leave yourself open over the top. The 4-3 gets enough because the left tackle just owns the right guard almost every time. That leads to more of a push and an overall better defense IMO.

3-4 is much better. It allows for maximum coverage when you need it, and it also allows for creative blitzes.

I also think it would come down to what division your in and what quarterbacks they all have. I think that if you would face guys like Ben Rothlisberger you would definetly need to run a 3-4 because when there aren't as many guys blitzing Ben makes bad throws. Even if the extra linebackers are just on a QB spy, I just think that gets to him.
