www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/92518701. Will Brees recover from his shoulder injury to play at a high level consistently? 2. How much $$$ does he deserve, in your eyes? I only ask this because the Lions might take a look at him. Oh, and does anyone else think the Chargers want Rivers to start? This is a hint in my eyes.

spending $20 million to a player for sitting on the bench for 2 seasons is a good reason to have him start

I think San Diego will get him back. He might take a current team discount. Jeremiah Trotter did this last year with the Eagles and Jon Runyan will take about 20-25% less on a contract to stay in Philadelphia. Drew Brees should stay in San Diego IMO.

The Chargers dont know what to do really. They have always been a cheap team and its coming off here, but then again can you blame them? Now I have followed Drew Brees and Antwan Randle El since there days at Purdue and Idiana. Drew can through the ball theres no question in that, but his injury looks alot like Chad Penningtons. Acutally, he looks alot like Chad Pennington, so do you want to look like the Jets and offer him guaranteed money?
In my opinion... they should have taged him with the transition. Then, they give him the Top 10 base salary for a Quarterback. That money isn't guaranteed untill the opening day. Teams can try and sign him and they have the right to match the other teams offer. It's the best way around this situation and they opted out.
To me that was a statement. I dont think Drew will be back with the team. This shows Phillip Rivers hes the man in San Diego. It shows they are the boss and the boss wants Rivers. Brees wont like it. Rivers loves it. I dont see any happy middle.
Drew will go to a team like Baltimore(hhopefuly) and be a savior to that team while San Diego struggles with a QB and his "upside" title. Marty Shottenheimer is not the guy who wants to teach this guy, but u do what u gotta do.
It's a crappy situation for all Chargers but Rivers...
Go Brees and Go Baltimore

I don't think Brees was really that good. Well, he's a good player, but compared to others, he's not in the top 5, and he's barely scraping in the top 10 of the best quarterbacks in the league. In 2004, he was amazing, but that's when defenses first saw him play consistently, and that worked in Brees' favor. This past season, teams were able to watch game film of Brees and catch his tendencies.
He's a classic pocket passer, but being just six feet tall, has to move around some in order to get passing lanes. And he's no Vick or McNabb in the pocket. It also helped to have Keenan McCardell, Antonio Gates, and LT to throw to.
With that said, I don't think he stays in San Diego. In my eyes, he's always been a stopgap player to Rivers, and now that Brees has served his worth in San Diego, he's going to be gone. Where, who knows. Likely Miami or the Jets, who are both quarterback-starved.

So you're going to give up a potential playoff spot with that team by throwing in a virtual rookie? Rivers has what, like 20 snaps in 2 years? If Brees does leave SD, Brett Favre can definitely feel free to walk away from GB...I'll say that much.

We all know a good defense cant win without an offense. We learned that LT cant win on his own. It took Drew Brees stepping in and making plays in a west coast offense as a spead offense quarterback. If you want to bash anyone, bash the Offensive Line, because with as many times he was sacked and pressured he still threw for over 62%. I'm sorry but I would put money that nobody could name 10 Quarterbacks better than Brees or who will have more producitve careers haha.
I guess he has more proving to do....
It goes to show that you can have amazing years(Him and Daunte Cullpepper) and then one bad year later people are hating on you.

Like chisato said up above, it's a waste of money to let Rivers sit on the bench. But even though I don't think Brees is an elite quarterback, he is good, and I think it's a bad move to get rid of him (if they in fact do). But it's likely going to happen.

Money wise, they don't want him, because of Phillip Rivers Talent/Experience-wise- says they should get him back.
