Yes, 2007 will be uncapped, and after that the players will never want to go back to a cap. Therefore making the NFL, the next MLB.

Well, I am sure they will go back to it. The problem is teams who have had to get rid of guys to get under the cap will be in trouble because they have crap players. How are they suppose to get all these good players than? Not everyone has the ability to give players a ton of money.

The cap was one of my favorite things about the NFL... there aren't any Yankees... yet.

Well, if they don't get the agreement soon, the cap will stay the same as last year instead of going up, and it will cause teams to have to release alot of players, and teams like the 49ers who are 16 million under the cap, will be getting alot of bargains for good players.

Well owners that are doing a lot to make money have to share with those that aren't making as much...kind of unfair for the owners...basically the owners want to do something about shared revenue and the players want more money

It is a lot of money though. The roughly 4% the NFL & the NFLPA have been arguing over is like some $300 million.

No I never expected them to get something done, they might as well close up shop before they force something stupid.

They might have been able to do what baseball did i believe two years ago, when they went and signed a deal close to the deadline like two days before.

Both sides talked Saturday, but the NFL labor situation isn't looking rosy, writes Len Pasquarelli. A union lawyer called talks "as dead as a doornail."

From what I thought I remember hearing, the players know they will be stuck with the cap. I think the players just want to try to get guaranteed contracts, or for all I know, I have it backwards, and they know they won't get guaranteed contracts, and they're fighting against the cap...

3 hours left for them to make a deal

Barring a dramatic reversal of negotiating stances, free agency will begin on Monday at 12:01 a.m. ET. The league will operate with a salary cap of $94.5 million for 2006, and the two sides will go forward with 2007 scheduled to be an uncapped year.

For example, two league sources told ESPN and ESPN.com on Saturday that the NFL had increased its offer on how much revenue would be split with players from 56.2 percent to between 58.2 and 58.5 percent. If true, that would have represented a predictable middle-ground compromise, given that NFLPA executive director Gene Upshaw had been seeking 60.3 percent. An NFLPA source insisted, though, that the league's best offer never got to the 58-percent range.

EDIT: I don't want to triple post, but the waiver deadline is now 11:30 ET. Whatever that means, that's like the 4th time they've pushed it back.
