Julius Peppers is the way to go. Not only is he an elite pass rusher, but he is one of the best DE's in the game at stopping the run, which is a weakness of Freeney's.
Freeney is a one dimensional DE sadly...
Osi Umenyiora comes at a close second, but Peppers is just such a complete defensive end, and he's such a freak.
Peppers has all of the moves. Whether it be a spin, strafe, or just using his power to get past a tackle...same applies when he is stopping the run game.

Derrick Burgess hands down. The guys is a beast. He is a great force off the edge. The most important person on the Raiders defense. He battled his way through some tough knee injuries in Philadelphia, became a free agent, made some money in Oakland and had a monster season.

Peppers, speed kills, as well as the fact that I don't think Burgress could have played basketball at North Carolina

Peppers is very overrated.
Being an AFC East guy, Jason Taylor, very, very complete.

It's a toss-up. I like Jason Taylor, but Freeney is exceptional against the run, as well as the pass. Probably the best run-stopping DE in the league.

He's not always a DE, but when there, I have to kindly disagree and say Richard Seymour is. When he was out, the Pats were shredded. Doesn't have the pass rushing skills of a Freeney, but as a 3-4 end he always occupies atleast 2 blockers every play. Although, on this list he is one of the best run-stoppers, and getting better. His rookie year he was basically a KGB (don't jump on me Jami) but he has improved loads.

It essentially makes him an end, but by position he is still a DT.

You cant say that a 6'1 255 pound Defensive end that has made severel big plays on the run every season he plays doesnt get this because his inability. Not only is he a beast sacking the quarterback, but he draws a tripple team and still puts up numbers. It's sad that he drops his numbers and we say he's not as good when he has 3 300 pount lineman on him and he's juking and jiving lol.
To not say Freeney is like an insult to the game haha, especialy when Peppers steroids along with the rest of the Carolina Panthers has been nation wide for two years haha.
A lil harsh i know...

Where is Kearse???
Anyways, like Freak I am going with Burgess. Nobody notices him because he isn't a big name guy, but he is putting up amazing stats and is probably the best player on Oakland's defense.

Why in the world is Richard Seymour not up. The man is a beast, he is THE BEST DE in the league hands down. Of course that is my highly biased opinion but whatevs.

Of course that is my highly biased opinion but whatevs. He's on the DT list, although he plays end for the 3-4. He played primarly DT his rookie season, but hasn't so much since. He still will in some of the Patriots' exotic looks. In a 4-3 he'd be a DT. Wilfork is our DT/NT in the 3-4 (and is a beast by the way), but whatever.
