K, so I didn't really care how the Lions did this weekend. They've already wrongly fired the coach. They showed little effort on Sunday, but that's not why I'm writing. It's that nobody cares anymore. Many fans at the game Sudnay had negative signs, including many that read "Fire Millen." And the worst part is, the ridiculous Detroit Lion security guards chasing these fans around because they have negative signs. They used the excuse "No banners are allowed in Ford Field." That's just ridiculous. It wasn't a banner - it was a ******* SIGN. Can you not handle the criticism? Can you not handle the fact that your team sucks? Is that it? Classless organization with an owner that doesn't care, a GM that hasn't the slightest idea what he's doing, and players that quite frankly don't give a crap anymore.Let's start at the top. William Clay Ford is the worst owner in the league. Period. He could care less if the Lions win or lose. He probably doesn't even know who Dan Orlovsky or Scottie Vines are. He doesn't have the common sense to dump Millen. Maybe he doesn't have the heart.
Matt Millen. Where should I start? His horrible drafts? His dumb personnel moves? 3 receivers in 3 years?
You don't do that. You don't take a guy from Michigan State who's biggest college game was the Silicon Valley Bowl. You take Andre Johnson 10 out of 10 times. And you don't go out and get 2 more receivers with aluable top ten picks. 2 maybe. 3 no. When your defense can't stop teams and your O-linemen are scared of the other team's D-line, you don't go out and draft receivers.
Someone fire him. Please. PLEASE.
Then there's the players, who don't give a crap anymore. Why should they? Their owner doesn't care, their GM is inept. What a sad organization.
I wrote this almost a year ago, and everything remains the same. And it's been this way for 5 years.
Last Sunday we played the Arizona Cardinals, and all game, watching Matt Leinart tear us up, I kept thinking: "We could have had this guy, but some retard in a position of power felt it would be better to pick a linebacker with 5 concussions in 3 years." If not for Leinart on the board, no, I wouldn't have minded the Sims pick, but he has made almost no impact at all. I will never forgive Matt Millen for passing on Matt Leinart. Not as long as I live.
Secondly, since the day we signed him, I've been a Josh McCown advocate. I never liked Jon Kitna - willing to give him a chance, sure, but I was never a big fan. We're here at 2-9 - Kitna's been a disaster. Go to McCown? Of course not. Even Steve Mariucci and Dick Jauron were willing to forget about Joey Harrington and give Jeff Garcia a shot last year. Didn't work out, obviously, but it seems as if Martz and Marinelli are scared to change things now. What's to lose? You've won 2 games!
Thirdly, Mike Williams has played in 2 games all year. Our prized 3rd wide receiver in 3 years isn't even playing.
So here we sit, in no better shape then we were at this time 5 years ago. Maybe even worse. I'm hoping the Lions get the top pick, but at the same time I dread the thought of seeing Matt Millen screw up our best opportunity to get ANY talent into this organization. He'll find a way - he'll probably take Calvin Johnson. Millen's first two draft picks - 3rd and 2nd overall - are gone. Roy Williams is doing great, but Mike Williams isn't playing and Ernie Sims hasn't had much of an impact at all. Meanwhile, players like Roy Williams the safety and Andre Johnson - players Millen foolishly passed up - flourish elsewhere.
But the fans keep going to the games, and this I don't understand. If the stadium remains as full as it is, nothing will change. They're making money, if the poor saps want to spend it and watch us lose, so be it. A 23-68 record during Matt Millen's tenure is enough to get him a contract extension. Why do we still care? Why do we still go to these games?
As long as Matt Millen is in charge, the Lions will keep losing. It's that simple. And unfortunately, our owner doesn't seem to care enough to end Millen's tenure.
So we keep losing.
Had to get this off my chest....again. Look forward to this, same time next year.
