Move over, Dante Hall. Devin Hester's the new best kick returner in football. Maybe he'll quit trying to bust a touchdown every time he touches the ball. Hester just makes it look so easy. Dante, are you watching?
Ugh.

Devin Hester has made the Bears Special teams as important as Offense and Defense. Never has a Special teams played such an important roll. Or a roll at all. With Hester and Gould, the Bears win the majority of there games off of Special Teams.
He's fast, he can accell like no other, he can stop on a dime, he can change directions in a heartbeat. You ought to know that Lovie Smith knows this and Devin Hester knows this. He needs to pick a position and train for that position. If he does that, he'll be an NFL Icon like Champ Baily or Santana Moss. He cant catch all that well to play WR or tackle well enough to play cornerback, but if he puts effort into what he wants to do, with his field vision, he'll have a bigger name than Special Teams star or the next Dante Hall.

Last night, the comentators were talking about Hester being the rookie of the year. As much as Bush, Colston, or the HB from Jacksonville could win it, I think Hester deserves it. Six returns for touchdowns? That's sick. I hope he grabs it.

I think Colston or Vince Young should be ROY right now. I mean, yes Hester has done some amazing things but what exactly are his offensive stats? Six returns is really good, but he really what does he do on offense exactly? Give me Colston (7th rounder turning into the top receiver in the best offense in the NFL) over Hester.
Then again, I'm kind of a homer.

Well that is what they were talking about. Most people will argue that his stats as an offensive player are not up to par, but he changes the way the Bears play dramatically. Vince Young has done a great job thus far, but his passer rating is around 60 and he has thrown 11 interceptions in 10 starts. On thing that he needs to work on is holding on to the ball. He has a hard time keeping possesion when he scrambels. He reminds me of a certian someone by the name of Michael Vick. I want to see if Vince can do more with his arm before giving him any hardware.

You mean his offensive stats are non existant. He's a cornerback, at least by position who's made five tackles. Other than six returns for touchdowns (impressive), he has produced 0 yards of offense, on zero plays, with 0 offensive touchdowns. That's not offensive MVP type numbers. Maybe if he was catching a few passes with the six returns...

Well I'm talking about the Rookie of the Year award, not the offensive MVP.
I thought Hester played a little wide out, I could be mistaken though.

He is listed on the depth chart and can play if they need him to, but he hasn't yet. He is a cornerback by nature. That was his regular position in Miami. He should just get Special Team splayer of the year. why isn't there one?

Offensive ROY is Colston, definitely. He's on the verge of 1000 yards, even though he's been out with injury. Vince Young is one heck of a playmaker, but his stats as a passer are very mediocre.
Hester is a fantastic special teams player, but that doesn't merit offensive rookie of the year. He's not a good wide receiver, or he'd be getting more balls thrown his way.

I can see Colston winning the OROY...if he can finish strong.
If Hester returns anymore for touchdowns, it should be his.
He doesn't get the ball thrown his way because he plays and was drafted as a defensive back. The thought of him playing offense only came out this week.
He's got one less touchdown than Colston...and his have come on returns which is much more impressive than receiving touchdowns.
He is THE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR right now. He has had a much greater impact on his team than Colston has. And right now, Colston isn't even the best rookie on his team anymore.
Perhaps I'm a homer...but for a rookie to do what Hester has done....that warrants more rewards and awards than the 15th ranked receiver in yards and 28th ranked in terms of receptions.

Take into account Colston's injury. He's been out for two weeks, and wasn't exactly 100% against Dallas. I think he'll finish strong enough to prove his worth as OROY. If he doesn't, than why not give it to Hester?
Oh and speaking of ROY, take a look at who's leading the NFL in tackles. Yeah, that's rookie DeMeco Ryans out of the University of Alabama. Though the Bears' own Mark Anderson (also out of Alabama I might add) is having a pretty good year getting sacks. Just want to point that out. ;D

FYI Mark Anderson has 10 sacks in limited play time.
Oh and as for Hester, lets put it this way, he has returned 46 total kickoff's and punts, and 1 missed field goal.
So that puts him at 47 touches.
With those 47 touches Hester has gained 977 totals yards off returns (351 kickoffs, 518 punts, 108 missed field goals)
To go with those 977 yards, he has also scored 6 times, setting an NFL record as a rookie, with 11 guys charging at him full speed on each and every one of those touchdowns (except for maybe the field goal return).
One could argue that it's only on special teams but Hester himself is closing in on a 1000 yard season, with 6 touchdowns in only 47 touches.
Hands down my ROY pick, it's just amazing what Hester is doing.

I know, he's been playing as good as I would have imagined. I knew he was good, but not 10 sacks rookie year good. The way I see it, DeMeco Ryans and Mark Anderson are probably the leads for DROY. To think I got both their names signed on a football.
