[glow=red,2,300]Tough start for the DC Legends[/glow]
Week 1 of the 2006 National Football League season is in the book and the new franchise in Alaska suffered a gigantic loss to the Seattle Seahawks in their home town by the score of 52-7. Matt Hasselbeck played a great game for Seattle throwing for 5 touchdowns and over 300 yards while Grant Musk got a rough start in his NFL debut throwing 5 interceptions and barely over 200 yards. 2 of those interceptions were returned for touchdown. The only touchdown scored by the DC Legends in this one was the punt return touchdown returned by Marco Knight for 48 yards. We have yet to see the DC Legends offense scored a touchdown. The Seahawks got 5 redzone attempts, scored four times, 3 touchdowns and 1 field goal. Each time earn 2 sacks. Julius Rice and Deshaunte Wilcox both earned their first sack of their young career.
Rod Marinelli gave a press conference after the game, he looked very disappointed. When asked what went wrong he answered: “Pretty much everything. Our guys were much stressed, maybe too much and we made a lot of mistakes, offensively and defensively against a pretty damn good team.” He also added that he had a young squad and hopes they will learn from their mistakes and this will go a good experience for each and every one of them. The DC Legends did not get one redzone attempts in the entire game. “We’ll have to work on our offense first, that’s our main priority for now. The deep coverage is also a pretty big factor for now since we got burned a couple of times by the Seahawks receivers” added the Legends coach. Deshaunte Wilcox played a pretty good game and was named the player of the game for the DC Legends getting 8 tackles and a sack. In the locker room he said: “At least I did my job, the rest of our defense needs to wake up, that’s all I have to say”. I bet his teammates are not too happy about that comment. Like it wasn’t enough, the DC Legends wide receiver Sebastien Harrison will miss 5 weeks with a strained shoulder. The young wide receiver said in an interview “It sucks to know that your not going to be able to help your team get their first ever franchise victory”. Dan Marino did not want to meet the press after the game. He must be pretty mad about what he saw on the field today that’s for sure especially from CB Zoltan Topocany who allowed 4 catches in the game.
Mike Holmgren was pretty happy about his team performance after the game. “We played a good game out there today, it was a young team but we have to play at our best against each and every team in the league” said the Seahawks coach. “They are a young squad and it’s normal that they make a couple of mistakes early in their career. They’ll get better that’s for sure and I can’t wait to face them at another moment in my career” ended Holmgren. He must be happy from what he saw from his offense and his defense.
Week 2 will not be easy for the young squad coached by Rod Marinelli has they face the Chicago Bears. The Bears defense is ranked number one in rush defense and we all know they are known for their great defense. The Bears beat the Packers in week 1 by the score of 17-10. After playing week 1 at home, the Legends will play in Chicago in week 2.
