But track speed has nothing to do with football speed. You could line up Maurice Green, and have him run a sub 4.2, but he wouldn't do crap on the football field. Probably the most extreme example, but just saying.

That is why the 3 cone drill also comes in to play. I think if you use the 40 time in conjuction with the 3 cone time, you can tell a lot. It gives scouts an idea, you can't really figure how a player will react with the money of the NFL or the teammates they may be put with on your team. But to say the 40 is pointless is not right. Some positions it really doesn't mean all that much but others it does. Dwayne Jarret is our example here. He doesn't have the speed to get past the corner on the deep ball. His supposed 40 time of 4.6 partially explains this.

As for Dwayne Jarrett, all I'm gonna say is that Troy Williamson of the Vikings ran a great 40 time like 2 or 3 years ago, and he has yet to make a major impact. I think the 40 time is nice, but people do put too much stock in it.

I can see some heavy competition to draft Calvin. He was absolutely ripped at 6-5 239, and then turned in a 4.35 wearing someone else's kicks because he hadn't planned on running the 40. Insane.

Yeah Calvin really started slow and I'm amazed he ran that fast after that start. A wideout who really helped himself today was Jason Hill out of Washington State, he ran really well and displayed a great set of hands in the catching drills.
After watching the QB's, I wasn't impressed with Troy Smith at all, but the worst QB at the combine was the guy from Washington, Isiah Stainback (sp?), he looked awful. Drew Stanton from MSU looked well.
As for RB's, AP is in a class of his own, and I think Lorenzo Booker should be the second back drafted. Remember he was rated the #1 recruit coming out of h.s. Although he had a disappointing collegiate career, he can play in the slot and also run the ball 10 times a game to take some pressure of the go to guy.

your kidding right? Booker #2 RB overall? Wow. Just Wow. You know not Lynch or Bush or Irons, Booker? Ok if you say so.
Just so you know nfldraftcountdown.com has booker as the 13th RB and rated him as a second day pick.

It has Leonard running a 4.60 when he was a 4.49, and it also has Brady Quinn as the number 1 pick in the draft, who are we kidding here. I'll say it right now, whoever is going to make the move to grab Booker will see a huge pay off in year 1.

I agree that Booker will suprisngly develop into a better player than Lynch and Irons, but I dont know about Irons.
I know its a little late, but unless you have watched and followed college football.... Marhsawn Lynch is in no way the better football player than Brian Leonard. I think it was Gary who said it was rediculous to take him over Lynch. Why?
Brian Leonard is an amazing runner, blocker, pass catcher and leader who attended Rutgers which is one of the most pretigue colleges when it comes to running a pro style team and preparing them for the NFL.
In 3 years... Lynch will be on the bench being talked about a bust wile Brian Leonard is being talked about one of the best young backs the league has seen in a while.
Only way Lynch is a better RB than Leonard is if hes taken by Denver, because Terdell Sands could run in Denver.

Drafting Leonard over Lynch because he ran the 40 .03 seconds faster is riduculous. I never said it was ridiculous in general, I said just because he ran the 40 .03 seconds faster it and to draft him because of that, is. Either way you entitled to your opinions, but you can't talk about thier futures when no one knows how they will end up.

Put them in pads, give them the ball, and tell them to run.
Then we'll see how fast these guys really are.

I think Larry Johnson ran around a 4.59-4.62, but he's the type of player who needs 30 carries and can wear down a defense. The same can be said about Tony Hunt, they are both complete backs rather than just speed demons.

Florida State's offensive line was pitiful this year. Take that into consideration when you look at Booker. He will be a good NFL back.
Oh and I still don't think Kenny Irons will be a good NFL back. (For the Aubbies around here, I thought Ronnie Brown and Caddy would)

I ask that because LJ improved tremendously in the pass catching department this year for the Chiefs.

(For the Aubbies around here, I thought Ronnie Brown and Caddy would) well, bama, i may have to disagree, and this may be a homer pick, i dunno, but i must say that Irons will do well if he has an O-line to run behind last season with Auburn's brick wall O-line, Irons had no trouble getting 150 yards on a bad day, but this year, he proved that without a line, he ain't worth too much, but honestly i wouldn't be surprised if McFadden got the same amount of yards as Irons did behind that crappy Auburn O-line that, and with a bum ankle he played on, i honestly believe there's more upside to Irons that people think, that being said, i still feel he needs a good offensive line to run behind, if he goes to Houston, he's screwed, but if he goes to Denver, he'll dominate, but then again who wouldnt dominate with Denver's O-line?
