The Nashville paper has a story that names Vince Young as the cover Athelete for Madden 08. Don't understand why they would do that unless they are expanding superstar mode to allow you to take over the careers of NFL players? What are they thinking. . . he has not arrived as a superstar.

Neither has Zabransky.
Not gonna buy this just yet. Could just be propaganda, but that's what we said when the Idaho paper reported Zabransky.
Either way, I'll wait for something from EA or IGN or a trusted gaming source.
IGN on Young: "Won the national championship at Texas then stormed the NFL with the competitive fire and cocky attitude of a superstar, carrying the Titans on his back on a miraculous run toward the playoffs. If there was an "it" player at the end of last season, it was Vince Young, so I wouldn't be surprised if that momentum is carried over into the new season with the Tennessee QB on the cover. You can also throw in the fact that Madden Producer David Ortiz is a huge VY fan (did you see how the kid dominated the game last year?) and you might find the right mix of style and substance the Madden team is looking for."

Or they could just be trying to put a young player on there that has a chance of not getting hurt to break that curse...
Peyton Manning deserves it, hands down. Him or Drew Brees/LT...

Peyton prolly turned it down. I heard that when Peyton was on the cover of NFL Fever way back when, his contract prohibits him from being on any other cover.

Both Manning and LT are apparently inelgible due to prior contracts.
While I would rather have quite a few others instead, Vince Young is still a good pick. Late in the season he got to be pretty scary. He took an 0-3 team to 8-8, with nail-biting losses to Super Bowl champion Indy and the top defensive team Baltimore each by a point. His numbers don't stick out as really any better than average, but considering he took a rather weak team in a competitive conference to .500 and had every intangible possible every week to wreak havoc on defense is enough to show he has promise in the league. It would be nice to see EA go with upside instead of the dominant guy last year (who's due for an off-season). Maurice Jones-Drew, if he got any attention, would be another guy who could fit the mold.
But I could care less about the cover. How about EA fixing the thousands of things wrong with the game already...

I thought Madden 07 was pretty solid last year (360).
The only gripe I had about it was the numbering system. For example, a CB could be #10, and you draft him. If no one else has #10 on your team, he gets that number instead of #20-49.
Irritating.

i read an article on realgm as well as heard the news on ESPN. Vince's agent, Major Adams, has stated Young is the Madden coverboy. He also stated that he and his client dont believe in jinks and curses.
With the talent Tennessee has right now, Young is in for a BAD season. LenDale is the only RB they have, Pacman is gone, and the wideouts are young (no Drew Bennett).
It's sad to see one of my favorite players get this, um, honor but oh well- let the curse continue.

I don't really give a flip who the cover athlete is, really. I spend much more time playing the game than looking at the cover.
But good for him, I guess.

They obviously are going for upside for this season than going on an MVP candidate, which is what they normally do. Clearly he's the one that has the most potential to break out, although of course as Cerrano pointed out he won't have anywhere near adequate weapons.
Everything he did was on the fly. So many people doubted his ability to be an NFL quarterback from his throwing style to his freaking wonderlic test. He won almost 2/3 of the games he played in (including 3 straight wins against playoff teams) and had 4 of his 5 losses against playoff teams (the other was the Jaguars who finished 9-7).
So yeah, Vince Young got lit up by a defense that let up the 2nd least amount of points in the league. Did you know the 23 points the Titans did score was the most a team has put up against the Pats all season, excluding a playoff loss to the Colts. Or that the 227 yards he threw for was the 4th most any QB threw for against New England all year.
The guy isn't chopped liver...

Indy put up 27 in the regular season.
But, that was also a team w/o Rodney Harrison because that dirtbag Wade chop blocked him. It also was a meaningless game for the Pats.
But that in mind, good for Young. I could really care less about who is on the cover of a video game or who deserves to be.

This is the cover from PlayStation Universe. I'm assuming it's legit, however don't have much to back that up yet...
